I'm a big fan of maison ikkoku and it's always a joy to re-read the manga again and again. However there's always a question that Kyoko asks Godai that has always puzzled me. In the manga, after Godai tells Kyoko (near the hotel) that she's the only woman he ever wanted, kyoko asks him "What if i said .. i don't want that?"does this mean that kyoko was still unsure if she loved godai or was she only testing his feelings and see what his answer would be?Can you guys give me your...

Welcome to the board, Frappo! Please stay a while. Always good to hear more opinions. And good to see you too, Wilder! I agree that you and 16ozgospel
had good comments. And I think Frappo had a good point about Godai being less selfish than Mitaka in not pressuring Kyoko.

I really can't add anything more now. If I think of a different aspect, I'll be sure to tack it on.

And to you, Frappo, saluti!

16ozgospel and The Wilder gave a smart reply.

In a parallel with Mitaka's ways it could be seen that Godai is really less selfish as he really give Kyoko the choice, without pushing her.

And I've found that the ways Godai continue this talk "please don't quit your job, I will left Ikkokukan soon..." is very moving.
I think that Kyoko was touched too

That reminds me of Godai's first declaration of love after he and Sakamoto got drunk and he carried her to his room. After all they've been through, it
seemed like she wanted to know where they stood at that point. As Kyoko was contemplating a way to make things easier between her and Godai, their impromptu
arrival at a love hotel I think is what solidified the idea in her mind and what brought on that question. 16ozGospel also brings up a good point, as that
question could also have...

Well, Kyoko was in love with Soichiro before she ever met Godai. Maybe she was uncomfortable with the thought that Godai only ever wanted her. She may have
thought that his lack of experience in not dating anyone else would somehow make his love for her fleeting - because he's never had the heartache she's
experienced. ---or maybe I'm just babbling, who knows..

It just occurred to me that even if she believed at that point that Godai was in love with her, she wouldn't automatically associate that with respecting
her feelings and behaving accordingly. Mitaka, for example, was "in love" with Kyoko, but it sometimes manifested itself in a very selfish way,
especially with regards to the hotel key. If Godai had responded with any indication that he would "make" Kyoko love him, he may have lost out
anyways.

Yeah, I've been wondering what that means, too. I don't think she was unsure of her feelings in the least by that point and was just testing Godai
because she didn't fully trust his words, but... what's everyone else think?
