Well to be fair my question was more character based not plot based. I usually hate love triangles because the third wheel is so unlikeable and always up to no good. While I don't think Kikyou is evil and I find her to be an interesting character, I thought she brought too much angst in relation to the Kagome/Inuyasha/Kikyou love triangle. It was actually one of the things I liked least about Inuyasha. Erm you do realise that at the beginning Lum is the third wheel between Ataru and Shinobu and it was only Lum's popularity with the fan's which got it changed to an Ataru and Lum pairing later.

I agree with Haro, Kouga was never a real obstacle to the Inuyasha/Kagome relationship. Kagome never had any feelings for Kouga beyond that of friendship. Past that, it was either harmless, or helpful. Kouga's actions brought to light legitimate issues in their relationship and helped move it along more than once post his appearance.
