Why not Kikyou?

Well to be fair my question was more character based not plot based. I usually hate love triangles because the third wheel is so unlikeable and always up to no
good. While I don't think Kikyou is evil and I find her to be an interesting character, I thought she brought too much angst in relation to the
Kagome/Inuyasha/Kikyou love triangle. It was actually one of the things I liked least about Inuyasha. Although as the story moved on it ended up bothering me...

Besides Kikyo, I never really saw a big threat to their relationship. Sure Koga and the Hojos are persistant, but Kagome remains faithful to her hanyou love.
Miroku's wandering hand strains his relationship with Sango, so there's lots of 'third wheels' there, though he doesn't seem terribly
serious about any of them.
