Remember when Kikyo joined forces with Midoriko's soul? And remember how nothing really came of that except Koga's legs freezing up once in a while? It was quite a let down considering how important Midoriko is in the history of the Shikon Jewel. I expected Midoriko's influence would be a larger plot element.

Yeah, I definitely think Inuyasha suffers from some "third act problems". Specifically beginning around volume 38 when the more charismatic and personable villains (Kagura and Hakudoshi) are replaced with The Infant and Moryomaru. I think Takahashi probably outdid herself when she created the Band of Seven, and so the badguys she made next sort of paled by comparison.

Well, about the shape-changing thing, I think that once the Shikon no Tama returned with Kagome, he began to use other people rather than doing things himself - therefore no longer needing to change shape to fool people into thinking he was someone else. As for disappointments, eh... cliffhangers? But that's good writing in my opinion.

I cheered and pounded my desk every damn time one of Naraku's minions died. Moryomaru. Kagura. Hakudoushi. Byakuya. The baby. Kanna. No matter how attached to any of them I was, I was SO AMPED when they died. Each death a step closer to killing Naraku.
