I just got done watching an episode about Yotsuya giving Godai an egg, and now I'm pretty confused. Were the characters shocked because giving an egg has
some sort of cultural significance or were they just surprised that Yotsuya gave Godai anything? Furthermore, Kyoko asks if it was raw or hardboiled because
it could mean different things. Did she meant that she wanted to know so that they knew how to treat the egg or is there some symbolism between raw and hard
boiled eggs. Thanks!

Well, the closest symbolism I can think of off hand would be the egg-shaped daruma dolls used for making wishes, but I think that would be kind of a stretch.
Even more of a stretch is a chinese creation myth involving an egg. Most likely, it's just an egg. Japan has one of he highest consumption rates of eggs in
the entire world - I remember hearing once, so it was bound to end up in a Takahashi manga eventually, I suppose. Like Yoiko Hibiki said, weird episode.

Part of the shock was the weirdness of the gift combined with the weirdness of the giver. Add to that the fact that anything they did to the egg would likely
be the WRONG thing.

The hard/soft question was originally about whether they needed to hurry and refrigerate (yes if raw, no if hard), until they got the notion they might have to
keep it warm and hatch it (possibly if raw, no if hard).
The "correct" way to tell is to spin it. Due to inertia, the fluids in...

I think you're right about the symbolism, or lack thereof. My take on it was simply that they wanted to know how to treat the egg (if it was going to hatch
or not) when they were curious about if it was hard-boiled or not.

But I'm honestly not sure. That was a weird episode...
