Anyway, back in 1994 I was browsing through this finnish game magazine, and it had a review of Ranma : Hard Battle (one of those street fighter / mortal kombat clones), and I thought "now there's a whacked up bunch of fighters... a panda, who's got a son who changes into a girl when splashed with water (mind you, the article didn't mention that Genma WAS also actually human, or that water thing was hot/cold). Back then I thought, now that's stupid. But 6 years later (2000 if you can't count) I was scanning through the shelves of my local library and noticed a couple of the graphic novels. There and then I remember that weird review I had read so many years before, and decided to grab and read them. My god! I barely could stay on seat! I cracked on almost every page! Being hooked ever since... Oh yeah, there were also a couple of volumes of one certain series called Maison Ikkoku, to which I was hooked even more...

The game was crap, but the character design appealed to me, the weird storyline even more so. WHile I was browsing for pictures on the internet, I came across the new Ranma Project, and read the last bit of volume 38 (the last one). Got me hooked on the whole series - over the next three days, I downloaded over 400 megs in gif scans, and haven't looked back since then.

Posts: 18 (04/03/02 05:31 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Nyee...my story isn't sentimental or anything, lol. ^^; The first anime I really got into was Sailor Moon (When I was little, me and my friends used to play that at recess every day back when the crappy American version was on tv! Whehehe. Uh, anyway....) so I decided that anime was really wonderous from that point on, and I went to Suncoast Video to buy some stuff, and I ended up going home with "Nihao my Concubine." At the time I had _no_ idea what Ranma 1/2 was about at all, and I mean nothing. So you can imagine how confused I was, with all them people changing to animals and what-not, lol! (I even thought on a guess that Happosai and Cologne were like married and someone's grandparents or something, lol! Well, I was way off.) To clear up my total confusion I bought the 1st Graphic novel, and the whole thing made a bit more sense, and since then, I've been had an empty wallet and a bookshelf full of Ranma 1/2. ^_^

And I remember once when I played in a park with a friend when I was very young. I didn't even know the characters well! I just said stuff like "I'm the blue one" and we didn't do anything. This was a long time a go. I saw it when I was like 4 or 5 I guess, but I didn't know what anime was, I thought Sailor Moon was just a cartoon. Then when I was 8 I saw Sailor Moon again and I saw it almost everyday. I still like it. At that time Ranma started airing and I just saw it. I watched it everyday too. I did like Ranma a lot, and now that I had more of a brain I did know the characters and played with all my cousins from my mom's side. It was so much fun!!! I also drew the characters, I thought I was the greatest. But now I see those drawings and I 'm like, 'What the...' Then the newspaper came up sayin that Ranma makes you gay, Sailor Moon lesbian, Dragon Ball violent etc... Just crap. Then I bought a VHS of Ranma, and I didn't know anything about the seasons etc. I thought those 'Outta Control' signs were just there. Then I realized a little about them being seasons. But anyways, I bought it and then that night my aunt that was travelling with my family said that Ranma had something (maybe she knew about that gay stuff, but didn't mention it that way). She said there was this 'hidden red point' or something and my mom started saying it was true. That's when all my cousins and me were told to stop watching Ranma. I didn't see it. Two of my cousins did sometimes and they recorded some episodes. The other two completely stopped. Now, in 7th grade around December (2001), I saw the Season 1 Boxset, I was like 'wow, the first season and on DVD'. I told my mom I was buying it. She said no, but I secretely bought it. That's when I wanted Ranma back. Now I'm buying all the DVD's that are being released, and I also discovered all the songs and now hope to collect all Ranma CD's. I listen to the music all the time! I'm also collecting the Graphic Novels since March. I had some manga in Spanish, but just thought of it as a normal comic like Batman. But now I realize how much more meaningful it is. I draw Ranma all the time and have perfected my skill a lot. I've become an obsessed otaku!!!! -Cpt. Kuno (April 3, 2002)

It all started with a weekend in Chicago and a Borders on Michigan Ave. and a little Rumiko Takahashi work called Maison Ikkuko. I purchased the first two mangas I ever owned that weekend (don't know what happened to them) and finished them in two days. I kept seeing on the back of them 'the creator of Ranma 1/2' and wondered what it was all about. I don't remember how many years it was until I actually purchased my first Ranma book but once I got my hands on it (Thanks again to Borders) I was hooked. I may not have read as many volumes as everyone else and I may not have seen any of the Anime TV, OVA, or movie but I enjoy Ranma and it springboarded me into other series. (I was actually reading Sailor Moon at the time I purchased my first Ranma but that's another story all together.) Now I'm reading things like Akira, Card Captor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayearth, Evangeline, and Dragon Ball and DBZ, which are a little difficult to read because they are printed in original Japanese format (left to right). Thanks to Ranma I'm more willing to try other mangas and my house has them laying around everywhere. Thanks Rumiko-san for introducing me to manga. Edward is very busy now. Oh wait, that was John Malkovich... For a short while a store opened up in my little town that rented out Animes to people. He just happened to have a handful of Ranma videos sitting around and I changed to rent them. Hey, guess what? I'm a-- What color Yoshi are you? Come take the quiz!

I even question science. I've probobly talked everyone's ear off with my story, but to focus just on the start. My friend received VHS tapes of Ranma from Japan. The 1st season was just underway, and no fansubs even thought of. These tapes were off-the-air recordings. No such thing as an Internet. He didn't know any Japanese and thought that I could help him understand the tapes. My Japanese 'sucked rocks' back then, but I was surprised at begin able to fill him in on at least the storyline a little better. That gave me inspiration for becoming a life learner of Japanese. Now its over a decade later, one year living in Japan, Waseda Univeristy, and a BA in Japanese (2nd Major)......I don't need the fan subs anymore. ----------------------------------

So I found an anime store locally, and I rented every single series episode, OAV episode, and movie they had. Not all at one time of course. Usually it was 2 dubbed tapes per day. It took a few months. Luckily, they were very up to date with the run of the releases, so I made it up to the "Pandamonium" DVD of season 6 by the time it came out. And I just bought the DVD's after that. So thanks to the people at G-Sentry, I have seen every episode in seasons 1-6, the OAVs and the movies. Yare. I'm a pretty new anime fan. But I've seen a LOT of it, and Ranma stands to be my absolute favorite!!! AIM: Ranma Fangrl, Margsy Chan

A cross-over is a mixture of separate series. In this case, the fic would probably be titled "Being Ranma Saotome" or something to that effect, and would entail "normal" people getting into Ranma's head. That's just an example. AS FOR MY STORY. Back in my freshman yeah in H.S., a firend of mine had dragged me to the house of a friend of his. He was somewhat of a japaneese game collecter, and for some strange twist of fate, I wound up playing Ranma 1/2- Battle Rennissance for Playstation. I took more of a liking to the actual characters than the game itself. I inquired about what it was based on, got a glimpse of the anime- "Suddenly Sasuke" to be exact, and the rest was history. Six years, 66 VHS tapes, 22 DVDs and 19 Manga volumes later, I'm still hooked.

I first got in to ranma cause i friend lent a friend a couple of tapes, and he invited me to watch them with him, they were "you reall hate cats" and the "Akane to remember" eps. It all seemed so weird to me at the time, but i took an instrest in akane and ranma's realtionship since it reminded me of a realtionship i was in (with out all the violence) but i didn't watch any more for years then i found some at blockbuster and got in to it again, it first i tried only to find one that had something to do with ranma and akanes realtionship, then a realized that almost all of them did, and just starting watching/buying/downloading as much as i could. Then i heard of the manga and read all 38 volumes in a long weekend. Now i feel like there isn't much more for me to do but wait for viz to come out with season 7 and talk about it.

Last year I first heard of it, and because my brother and I are into anim in a pretty big way, we wanted to see what sorts of anim we could get. I love martial arts, so I guess anything with that in it is a good place to start - DBZ was the first anim we really got into, but since then we've found a few we like. Anyway, he came across Ranma and we downloaded episode 14 of Season 1. It was funny as, so we started collecting all the episodes right from the beginning. I still haven't seen past episode 6 of Season 6, but that's because I don't have episode 7 yet.
