I'm going to my fiancee's parents' place for the holiday. I'll be gone from Saturday to Wednesday.
Anyone else have plans? |

Just got back with Yoiko from visiting our Dad yesterday. Hoshi is flying back from Japan right now and getting in tomorrow, and I'm headed out to Texas on the 27th to spend a week with her and her family. |

I'm off Monday and Tuesday. Going to a party tonight, hosting a party all day tomorrow, going to another party on Sunday, hanging out with my brother on
Monday, then doing the family stuff on Tuesday.
The week of New Years is when I burn the vacation time. Probably be spending a lot of it playing Rock Band with a few of my wife's cousins and watching entirely too much anime. |

Currently up in the mountains in Montana, getting away from it all for a while and working on some oil paintings.

Happy Holidays to Everyone. | ||
|
2nd day of a mammoth 17 day vacation. Won't I ever get any rest! Seems vacation, the time for rest, is ALWAYS chalk full of going, visitors, and stuff.
O, but here comes the cavalry. A snow storm to put a wrench in tomorrow's plans. 10 inches of snow. Salvation here at last? We shall see. I hope everyone has a Happy and safe Holiday Season. A Festive Yuletide, a Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanza, Happy New Year! and a Merry Orthodox Christmas! And a Festivus for the restuvus!
Regards,

Sounds like everybody's having a good time. I love this time of year.
Here's a little sketch present: You just can't take him anywhere....
Anyway, hope everyone has a happy whatever-your-parents-raised-you-to-celebrate. |

We just went to Chili's for a little Christmas Eve dinner and I found a cheap copy of King of Fighters XI at Sams. I knocked out a quick translation of
Junji Ito's comments about Urusei Yatsura (check out the Shinsouban topic in the UY section). Now "The Godfather" is on, so I think I'll
watch that. Merry Christmas everyone!

heh, I'm pretty sure my mom actually means "santa forgot to go shopping" when she said it this year. Although I think she has some candy laying
around. That said, this Christmas season has been great, I didn't have to buy any presents. (my siblings decided to skip presents this year.)
Nice and relaxing, the way Christmas should be.

Got a PSP! Very excited about that. We also got some CDs, Blu-Ray discs, a couple of manga (Firefighter Daigo and Gundam) and some games for the PSP. A
really good year!

My brother got Guitar Hero III, which I never had any interest in playing before, but am now a little bit addicted too

Guitar Hero 3 is great. I've been playing it a lot over the past couple of months.
My wife and I gave ourselves a 47" LCD HDTV last month thanks to a good sale the weekend after Christmas, so we were done with gifts to each other well before Christmas. Hardly anyone knows what to get for me, so the usual from friends are gift cards and cash. Just need to decide if I feel like braving the shoppers today or waiting for some time in the future. Rock Band is high on my list of desirable things, but so are Haze, Unreal Tournament 3, a wireless router, some stuff for the PSP (notably a 4GB or larger memory stick and the game Jeanne D'Arc), a few Blu-ray movies, and GTA IV if I can wait that long. Yay on the PSP, Yusaku. You'll love it. Using remote play to stream audio/video via your PS3 is sweet and saves storage on the PSP, plus you can play PS1 titles. The 2.10 firmware update for the PS3 allowed remote play to work with PS1 titles if you have the original game disc in your PS3. I like getting retro and firing up stuff like Williams Arcade Classics on occasion, and now that I can do that on the PSP while my wife is watching TV, I think that's pretty neat. |

Wow, that is cool Alindawyl, I didn't know you could play PS1 games that way. I'll have to break out some of my old ones. That might even save me from
rebuying Final Fantasy Tactics (though I would like to see some of those nice, new cinemas). I was a little disappointed that you couldn't stream DVDs and
Blu-Rays to the PSP (I'm not totally sure why it's not possible, since apparently you can play the PS3 game "Lair" via remote play), but
overall it's really been awesome. We took it with us when we went for a walk yesterday and scanned our little country town for other wireless connections.
I was pretty surprised by how many we found.
Speaking of Playstation... if any Rumic Worlders got a PS3 for Christmas, please feel free to add us to your friends list. Our PSN ID is: RumicWorld Another cool thing I got is the Taschen book "80s All American Ads," which I had been wanting for awhile. It's a huge book filled with advertisements from the 1980s that makes me really nostalgic for when I was little. Lots of He-Man ads and some of the old Marlbro and liquor ads I remember seeing as a kid. Plus, Dylan got me the last Ranma CD I needed. Yay!

You can't stream copy protected video files, even if they're stored locally on the PS3 hard drive. So you probably can't do DVDs or Blu-ray for the
same reason, likely a silly DRM issue.
You CAN stream audio/video from a media server to the PS3 and then play the transcoded files via the PSP, but you want to be sure the PS3 is on a wired connection for that. Video gets pretty choppy if it's going out of the PS3 via wireless as well as going into the PSP via wireless, much less using wireless for whatever media server you might set up. Audio is no problem due to the lower bandwidth. And as I assume you got one of the slims, you can purchase a component cable designed just for the PSP slim to allow 480p output to a TV. So I can haul the PSP to my brother's house, plug it into his TV, and stream a video from the PS3 at my house 20 miles away. I must admit that Renegade Squadron is great mindless fun. And being able to do nifty audio/video things as well like streaming to a TV in a remote location just makes my inner nerd squeal with joy. Oh, and my PSN ID is Alindawyl. I leave the PS3 on so am always logged in. You're most likely to see me playing Guitar Hero 3 if I'm around, although I do play a good bit of Resistance and Oblivion as the mood strikes me. I *will* finish Oblivion before the summer!

Got the kids a Wii. Waited 6hrs to get it. Seems worth it to my son at least. Especially since he waited with me. Coolest thing I got was a board game called
Mission to the Red Planet. Played it once and its good. Have so far knocked off 2 of the 3 mandatory Christmas gatherings. Tomorrow will be the final one and
we are hosting. Also the family got the board game Blokus. If you haven't played it, I highly HIGHLY recommend it. Rules are simple and the strategy
endless.
Hope you all had a great X-Mas and may you all have a wonderful New Years!

I got... a box of chocolates and a mug. xP Slept through most of the day, and spent the half I didn't sleep through watching movies. Didn't see a
soul all day.
Guess this is what happens when you move halfway across the world in early November. My heart has joined the thousand, for my friend stopped running today. |

It'll be better next year Sol. Calgary is quite a move from Australia. Any regrets climate-wise?

Well, I kinda got sick of snow roughly ten minutes after getting off at the wrong bus stop and being compelled to walk without a proper jacket through the
stuff, and it's so dry that my skin's flaking, but apart from that it's all good. ^^
