I'm going to toss out a few short stories that I think she might revisit and list a few reasons why and why not it might be expanded into a serial. Feel free to use this topic not only to look back at older series for ideas, but to throw out any ideas about what her next Shonen Sunday series is going to be. We're going to have plenty of time to brainstorm, Takahashi is due for a long vacation. For a list of her short stories along with summaries, check out Rumic Theater's manga section.
Happiness List
Two women, one young, one older begin their own investigation when their neighborhood is plagued by an arsonist.
Pros: Takahashi has never done a mystery series before and always moves into a new genre for her subsequent series.
Cons: Detective Conan, Shonen Sunday's top series is still going, and I don't see them having two investigative serials from their two biggest artists.
Middle Aged Teen
A 40-something father gets hit on the head and think's he's a teenager again. Wacky hijinks ensue when his family suspects he's gotten a teenage girlfriend.
Pros: A seinen story with shonen appeal. Takahashi could revist the "transformation" concept of Ranma 1/2 by having a father and son switch bodies.
Cons: Marketing a series to kids with the main character as a middle aged guy seems like a really tough sale, even if he acts like a kid.
The Face Pack
A high school student who is a master of disguise battles against the principal (his father!) to win the girl.
Pros: I always thought this was an idea that had a lot of unused potential. Could be a good way for Takahashi to get back to comedy.
Cons: So old that even Takahashi probably doesn't remember doing it. Also, I've never heard of anyone liking this story besides me.
Those are just a few that I thought might work, there are tons of other stories/ideas out there that could be great series out there too. I'd love to hear some other people's opinions on Takahashi's next move.
