hoho! interesting.
Another Live-action adaption. Anyway, looks like it will run for one season. So I guess about 25ish episodes. Think they'll be able to adapt the whole series? this guys the main char: ![]() ![]() |

This should be good, although I have to admit I was hoping for an anime adaptation. Thanks for posting this Kirara!
Quote: Oh yeah, for sure. I just hope its a faithful adaptation. I'd rather see him fight Takos, Amakusa, Matsuzaka and the other boxers from the manga rather than some new characters. |

Quote:me too, godai. I know it's an adaptation, so it won't be exactly like reading the manga, but it will certainly be easier to translate into a live action series than some of her other works like urusei yatsura or inuyasha. I think it'll be okay. I won't have to worry about some fake-looking costumes. |

Quote: Standard dorama length for 1 season is 11 or 12 40-minute (ish) episodes. If it is a big hit, they might start and/or end with a 1-hr or even 2-hr special. The problem with a 2-hr special at the end is that they can't know ahead of time how big a hit it will be, so (as happened with Hanazakari no Kimitachi e) the 2nd half of the 2-hr special can end up being boring filler. (In the case of Kimitachi, it was 30 minutes of stupid farewells.) However, 11 eps can cover about the same ground as 24 or 25 anime eps. A case in point is Nodame Cantabile. Both the dorama and anime covered the same arc of manga, with comparable thoroughness. Given the shortness of the original, a 1-season dorama can in theory do justice to 1 Pound no Fukuin. Kamenashi Kazuya is your basic Johnnie: long on looks, short on skills. He can do a good pout and a sidelong glance. But don't expect much more. It is no secret that I enjoy dorama, so I am looking forward to this adaptation. (I haven't read the manga, though.) But the appeal of dorama is like the appeal of American soaps: you're in it for the cheese. |

Right, I thought a season was half a year for some reason.
I was actually confused by "dorama", so I looked it up and learned a bit about Japanese dramas. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorama ![]() |

I've only seen Kamenashi in Gokusen 2 and Nobuta wo Produce. He's very excellent in those dramas. He won an "emmy" you can say for his role in Gokusen 2.
I must say he's also a talented singer as well. www.youtube.com/watch?v=h60WgbID4iw www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYDHBKAh-RE I also hope they make a live action Hajime no Ippo, which is also a boxing one. It's my favorite manga right now. |

She was also in Haikei, Chichiue-sama. I really liked that dorama. She plays an aloof and mysterious beauty. I can't say whether I thought she was great or awful. One of the two. The part suited her, though. No question she knocks the breath out of you (if you are interested in girls). She's probably well-cast here.

I'm a little bummed that based on some of the early reports they're going to give Mukoda a son. The kid they have playing him (Ryosuke Yamada) is odd looking in my opinion. Why not just say he's Yoshihiko instead of Mukoda's kid? His odd appearance seems more suited to Yoshihiko, and to me that would seem like a more authentic direction.
But I'm just glad they're doing it, honestly. I think it has a lot of potential! ![]() Yoiko Hibiki Webmaster - Rumic World |

So I just finished watching the first episode a little while ago, and I thought it was pretty good! There were some good funny moments. Everyone looks a
little too 'cool' I think, but Kosaku's actor did a nice job of being kind of goofy like Kosaku is, I thought. And Sister Angela's actress is
even more beautiful in action than she is on the cover of that Young Sunday! I still can't believe she's only 19. I thought she did a great job.
So it seems like the biggest change is that Mukoda... is a woman!!! With a son in high school! How weird! My tv guide has a little page about the drama and from the tiny cast pictures I thought this guy named Mitaka was going to be Mukoda! I was pretty surprised to find he's sort of her assistant slash best friend since childhood and a trainer in the gym. She's got that same spirit that Takahashi's old man has though, so I think it'll be interesting to see how it goes. I liked her. She makes some good faces. haha The 'opening' was really cheesy. There wasn't really a theme song or anything, but there was this 3d rendering of a stain glass churce window and things kept flying out of it. A boxing glove, a rosary, a hamburger... lol And they all floated into a 3d ring where the title of the show appeared. lol The episode started with Kosaku losing a fight because he got distracted by a man eating takoyaki in the audience, and was set up with another fighter from that same gym after the match. Of course he was overweight and had 10 days to get down. About 6 days into his fasting he passes out while jogging through a park and Sister Angela revives him with a sip of tea. The day before the weigh in he runs into her again by saving a kid she's out with, and she takes him back to her church and as a thank you they invite him to their school lunch. So all the kids are shoving their food in his face and she tells him to eat as much as he likes and he caves and ends up being one pound overweight the next day and his fight gets canceled. Mukoda goes out and gets plastered because of it and passes out on the street. Sister Angela finds her and takes her to this restaurant all the boxers from the gym frequent (and it looked like Kosaku was working at a little earlier in the episode) and that Mitaka guy comes to get her. Mukouda passes out again at the table and Mitaka tells Angela about Mukoda's dream for a champion and how she thought Kosaku would be it, but he only keeps disappointing her. As they're leaving Angela sees a cut out on a bulletin board in the restaurant of Kosaku's debut match and realizes who he is in connection with Mukoda. The next day while she's praying she realizes it's her fault that he was disqualified for forcing the food on him and goes to their gym to confront them about it and convinces Kosaku to keep fighting and become a champion. While they're all yelling, a guy comes in and wants to challenge Kosaku. It's Onimaru! So Kosaku starts training really hard and passes the weigh in, and Onimaru invites he and Angela to his house for dinner with his family. In this show, Onimaru is old, his wife wants him to quit, and he doesn't want to let his young son down. On their way home Angela tells Kosaku she won't be going to the fight and he doesn't like it but doesn't fight her on it either. The next day during the fight he's not doing the best he can because he doesn't want to shame Onimaru in front of his son. At the church, Angela changes her mind and sneaks out of her room to go to the fight after all. She enters just as Kosaku goes down and on seeing her he decides he can't just lose in front of her and gets his second wind, but has underestimated Onimaru and goes down again. The only thing that gets him up is Mukoda promising to take him out to eat if he wins, which he does. On her way home Angela decides she kind of likes boxing. haha The next episode preview had a recreation of one of my favorite panels, Kosaku drowning his sorrows in ramen and looking like some kind of monster with his mouth stuffed full of noodles. lol The ending was just tidbits from the episode, but in the credits I saw a little manga Kosaku and Angela! I'm not sure what that was about since it was so fast though! Well I didn't expect to do a summary, but there's a little one for you! I thought it was good overall, I'll definitely watch it every week while it's on! I'll take some pictures of the stuff in my tv guide and put them up here later. I don't have a scanner here, so I'll have to actually photograph the pages. haha I also thought that it was pretty funny that the guy playing Kosaku was in a Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial right after the episode. haha |

That's so weird that they got a woman to play Mukoda... What did you think of the guy that played Onimaru? Did he do a good job? It's good to know this
will definetly be a multiple episode series (keeping my fingers crossed that Maison Ikkoku may continue...)

Wow, thanks for the summary Hoshi, I might have to use that on the site if I can figure out how I want to do a drama section for the OPG site. Ugh, I
can't believe they made Mukoda a woman......why? Why would they do that? Although I went on Youtube and she's pretty good looking. Which is
weird......I never thought I'd say "Wow, that Mukoda is pretty hot!" haha
It sounds like they stayed as close to the original as they could otherwise though. Interesting that they started with Onimaru instead of Amakusa, but Amakusa didn't really have an interesting back story to make him a compelling opponent. Very interesting, and for you guys that haven't seen the news on the site, Viz is going to be re-releasing the OPG manga this summer, so yay for that! |

I finally got my copy of the 1st episode. I like it a lot. I think Kamenashi does a great job. Can't wait to see the rest.
I haven't read the manga in awhile, but I always love Kamenashi's performances. He's talent as both a singer and as an actor and I think he pulled off Kosaku well. I also like the ending song LIPS, which is sung by him and the rest of his band, KAT-TUN What is Mattitude? Utilizing the belief system and work ethic (Mattributes) of THE Matt Hardy to create a better life for yourself by fulfilling your goals and dreams. Mattitude is a quality that can help anyone -- regardless of background or past -- to achieve success. You just have to make it a lifestyle, a mindset, a religion. Mattitude, is something that can not be taught or learned. Mattitude is something that burns within. In the ring, Mattitude is the intangible, the x-factor, that gives me an advantage over everyone else.
