Well, all of her characters are very original. Occasionally she will base a character on a historical figure (usually Chinese), but that wasn't the case in with Maomolin. There are some similarities between Maomolin and one of her previous creations Kotatsu-Neko from Urusei Yatsura, who is also a giant, white, ghost cat.

and as we learn in the anime, he's bi-sexual. them anime writers are even more creative than takahashi.
If they cannot put aside their hatred of us, then let them attack. Even if they succeed in killing me, my men are certain to fight to the last. Neither side will win. We'll simply turn this spot into an ocean of blood and bring this endless cycle of hatred to its violent conclusion. My own hatred, as well. - Kushana |

I disagree bcuz the manga and anime stories are about the same, only that Maomolin appears more often in the anime. I just also thought I'd post here what
his name means. translated from Chinese, his name means "cat of bells." Mao is cat, mo is of, lin means bells.

Yoiko Hibiki wrote: Takahashi often creates her characters using Japanese fairy tales. I think Kotatsu neko and Maomolin are both come form "Bake neko" or
"Nekomata". Truely Lum is very her original character, but its idea comes apparently from fairy tale monsters oni, so Maomolin does.
