What an interesting article! You're right in saying that there are similarities between the two storylines. I wasn't a big fan of "Lum the Forever", so I haven't seen it for awhile, but I can remember the basic plot. I liked the connection between Tomobiko and the Shikon no Tama. Takahashi didn't really have much to do with the making of Lum the Forever, so your assertion that the similarities are purely coincidental is most likely correct, but, yeah, Lum was facing Tomobiko alone as Kagome is facing the Tama alone. I think another similarity between the two stories could be the Oni Princess in LTF and Midoriko in Inuyasha. They thought the story of the princess was just a fable, then they started believing it, just as most people in the modern era of Inuyasha believed the Shikon no Tama was just another legend, then it became a reality for Kagome.

Like I said, it's been awhile, so I may have a few things messed up in my mind, but I think the basic concept is interesting.

Just wondering, Yusaku Godai, see anything in this chapter to add to your article? If I remember, the memory of Ataru knocks Lum out of her trance and Kagome was given hope in her lonliness with the sound of Inuyasha's voice. Might be kind of a stretch, but you could make it work.

Along the same lines, the last chapter of Maison Ikkoku had a 'one year later' thing which showed Kyoko and Godai with their little girl. The last chapter of Inuyasha will be a 'three years later' thing, so....well...hmmm...maybe there will be a little 'Haruka' for Sango and Miroku or, dare I dream it, a little baby for Inuyasha and Kagome?
