This is all speculation, but what kind of series do you think Takahashi-dono will start when InuYasha ends (if the ever happens)?
And has she mentioned what she plans to do next? |

I hope she does something with more comedy(even though Inuyasha isn't bad, but long...) like Urusei Yatsura or Ranma 1/2. But I think I read somewhere that she is getting into more dark(well, not really dark but with demons and stuff) now. We'll just have to be patient and wait, or maybe she'll anonce soon what her new series will be.

I actually hope she does something slice of life like Maison Ikkoku but I doubt it.
I would also like a horror serial like Mermaid saga (actually I wish she would continue Mermaid Saga). I know Inuyasha has some horror elements but I feel it was really toned down later on in the story. |

what ever it is I bet the anime will be toned down. I dont know who can take up the task of producing one of Takahash's works besides kitie, and I realy dont like how IY became practicly blood less.

I hope it's not a crack comedy like Urusei Yatsura or Ranma 1/2. She's been there, done that, and if anything seems to be moving away from it based on her current serial and her short stories.
I also don't want it to be an adventure like InuYasha, but I would prefer it be closer to that more serious tone than the more comedic one of her earlier long serials. As for what I think it will be? Something more along the lines of Maison Ikkoku, but still Shounen Sunday material. I am thinking maybe a slice of life with fantasy or supernatural elements and younger characters than MI? I wouldn't mind that at all, and would be thrilled to see it. We should take bets. *laugh* |

Any chance, you think, folks, that Mermaid Saga could continue where it left off? It really didn't have anything in the way of an ending. Has RT ever said for sure that there would not be any more there? Just a thought.
I'm with Haro in that I'd hope for a slice of life drama with comedic elements along a MI tone. For my money, it wouldn't have to be Shounen Sunday. Probably it would be that, and not a Spirit's run, I guess, because Shounen Sunday (being a weekly) may make more money. We shall see . . Regards,

Quote: I don't think it's out of the question for her to write it again, but as it's always been an on again off again serial that she does while working on a longer work, I can't see it being her next long project. Quote: I wouldn't mind a Spirits manga either, but I don't see it as likely (unless she does two manga at once like during MI/UY). I think Shounen Sunday needs Rumiko. She's been a banner mangaka for them for almost thirty years. She's too important to them and they will definitely want to keep her. |

Quote: Well it would be nice since she finished OPG I am sort of amused at the thought that we are discussing her new serial and for all we know Inuyasha could be another 100 chapters. I know it seems like it is wrapping up but how many times have we thought that. Although my question is how long does it usually take Takahashi to start a new series after finishing another one. I assume she would get some type of break after Inuyasha is over. |

Re: What next? Mermaid return? | ||
Quote: Yeah, but she did it while working on her other series. I just meant I can't see her picking it up as her next serial. It will always be a side project if she does it again. I would really like to see her write it again though. Quote: Lol, don't even joke about that. XDDD Quote: She'll probably take a several month break between publications. That's what she's done before. |

at least a few more Mermaid stories. Some more Rumik World stories would be nice (seems like she's mostly been working on Rumik Theater stories the last few years).
To be perfectly honest, I hope she doesn't do another LOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG series like Ranma or Inu-Yasha or Urusei Yatsura. I'd like to see something like Maison Ikkoku, where it goes on for a few years with a fairly focused story and then ends before it gets stale (yeah, I know, there are a couple stale arcs in Maison Ikkoku, but in the end it all pays off). It could be sci-fi, horror, romantic comedy, sports, drama, I don't care. Just as long as it's short(er) and has a good progression (just say "NO" to ten years of bickering lovers and needlessly drawn-out quests). Just as a curb check: I bought my first Japanese comic book in 1996, a few months before Inu-Yasha started (for those who are curious, it was the first appearance of Ukyo in Ranma 1/2). That spring, I graduated high school. I started buying Shonen Sundays starting with the third installment of Inu-Yasha at the end of 1996 (and managed to get a crappy letter published about it in MangaVizion). I stopped reading Inu-Yasha after only three years, and I've been waiting for Takahashi's next series since then. I wonder how many of Inu-yasha's original Japanese audience still read it, after all these years? I was eighteen when it started--I turn thirty this year. I suppose that's not as bad as the Simpsons (I was in sixth grade when it started, and it will still outlast Inu-Yasha). |

Re: I'd like to see | ||
Quote: I really don't think so. Its been 14 years since she's touched it, and she didn't do anything special for it when the TV series was released a few years back. Quote: She took off 28 weeks after Urusei Yatsura ended before Ranma 1/2 started, and she took off only 14 weeks after Ranma 1/2 ended before she started Inuyasha. She usually vacations in Latin America after her serials are over. Quote: That reminds me of Viz's old campaign of running Inuyasha concurrently with the Japanese release. Of course with Viz only publishing two chapters a month and Shonen Sunday publishing four, they didn't stay side by side for long, even though they were introduced at almost the same time. Hard to believe I've been reading it monthly and then weekly now for 11 years. *_* Thats cool that you got a letter published in MangaVizion though! That was a good magazine..... |

Re: I'd Like to see | ||

I would like to see another slice of life myself. InuYasha could very possibly be another 100 chapters long. Not much has happened to advance the plot...the little chapter about Shippo's foxfire school was the worst excuse for a filler I have ever seen. I'll cry if it drags on much longer. Not that I dislike InuYasha, I just can't keep up anymore. Anyone else notice that InuYasha's plot changed from getting the shikon jewel to killing Naraku? |

Is INUYASHA the last series she makes ? Hope it's not so T_T
I don't like romance like Maison Ikkoku because this story doesn't have the ups and downs and all kinds of surprises like INUYASHA or RANMA. I prefer romance and adventure and philosophy like INUYASHA. And I absolutely love RANMA 1/2 !! ^_^

See if you can read between the lines in any of the recent IY episodes, or her short stories. She might leave some slight hints as to what her next series will
be about (if she has any idea at this moment).
For instance, the very last UY manga episode just before the "final chapter" storyline had them going to a supposedly cursed hot spring that would turn people who fell in into animals. |

Personally, I'd love to see her take a totally different approach and do something like a shoujo. She'd definetly could make a unique one, but I
seriously doubt it. My guess is since she's done the long-running series with Inuyasha, she'll probably follow the current trend and focus on shorter
series. She'll probably focus on a bit older age group than previous series, though not fully adult. Maybe a sports comedy. And maybe something else,
sort of like Shiawase List, not unlike real life, where the cast is an entire community of characters doing semi-believable things.

I doubt she'll do anything shoujo or josei. She's never done anything that didn't have a male demographic...so I would be very surprised... I wouldn't be surprised if her next series was something a little more realistic than Inuyasha...but hopefully not too serious. It's just not RT if it's not semi-whimsical. |
