Heh, when my cousin first mentioned it, I thought she was saying Bubble Tape, so I was a little confused when she said she was crazy about it.

Who here has discovered this? I visited my cousins back east last week, and one of them introduced me to it; said she'd become hooked. I tried a little;
it's almost like horchata--but with weird chewy balls of tapioca at the bottom. I'd recommend it if your local Asian market has any.

All I know is that I'm pretty sure it originated in China when they put the milk in tea and shook it up to make bubbles form at the top--or something.
(According to some hawaiian relatives). I'm not a big fan it taste like something that's not meant to be consumed, it's WAY too sweet, like
you're drinking perfume or soap or flower scented lysol or something. I do like Lollicup, though, if anyone has that local in their area. They make yogurt
teas and other neat tea combos. ;p

Yeah its pretty tasty though. Common in my country in Asia and many Asian countries anyway. There are also many different flavours that u can make them with. A
few examples; strawberry, green tea, mocha, vanilla & etc. Oh and those chewy stuff is called pearls, hence the name Pearl Bubble Tea.

Yeah I've had the tapioca balls in the boba tea, but honestly I haven't had it made *well* at these hole in the wall places. I'll try it at
Lollicup next time I go. I remember the huge straws they give you to suck the 'pearls' too

I think I've tasted it once before like more than 5 years ago. Isn't it kind of greenish? When I first saw it, I was hesitant because it looked like
little frog eggs, pretty gross. But when I drank it, it was surprisingly delightful. I've never tasted it a second time because I don't know the name
of it. I just kind of forgot about it until now. Hmm, I gotta go ask my mom where I can get some of those now.

Oh, BUBBLE TEA!!! | ||

There's a certain very popular street where I live where bubble tea places are like Starbucks, you can't get away from them! And it's SO good! I
don't know if what these places serve is some sort of spinoff of 'regular' bubble tea, but here the term is more like a broad catagory of drinks
(like 'coffee') and then you can get all sorts of variations, like regular hot or cold tea, milk tea, snow (sort of like milkshake), smoothies, and
slushes. And there's all sorts of flavors, some fairly typical like strawberry and peach, and others more exotic like passionfruit and thai iced tea.
Finally, although I believe the 'bubble' in bubble tea refers to tapioca balls, you can also get it with lychee and different flavored jelly.
I got bubble tea just yesterday. And now, thanks to this board, I want it again...maybe I'll make a trip tomorrow So honey...

According to Wikipedia, the "bubble" in bubble tea actually refers to foam created during production. The tapioca balls are "pearls", and what we usually call bubble tea is "pearl milk tea" to the Chinese. |
