It was so cool to see that Inuyasha tankoban #53 was #8 on the list of top ten tankoban in Japan this week. After what, 10 years, Inuyasha is still in the top
ten; you have to give Takahashi some props for that. I don't know stats or anything, but how many manga last that long and remain that popular?

It certainly is still hanging in there, but unfortunately, series like Bleach and Detective Conan had their new books come out weeks ago, and they're STILL
in the top ten. With the exception of the last book, I can't remember when IY has lasted more than a week in the top ten.

Unfortunately I think Takahashi's popularity in Japan has waned somewhat over the past few years. While Inuyasha was unquestionably a hit, its time in the
spotlight is long over.
It may be too harsh to say that Takahashi isn't relevant right now, but that might be the truth. Shonen Sunday's sales are below a million copies a year now, which is troublesome when you compare it with Shonen Jump and Shonen Magazine. Without an anime to promote it, Inuyasha has fallen off the radar to a certain degree, and I think that effects Takahashi's popularity as a whole. |
