Anyway, I had to get rid of all my old MI VHS's b/c I wanted to get the DVD box sets and as many times I've watched this series over like 13 yrs I wanted my hubby to start watching it too, so far he loves it! And when I think about it, I keep realizing in the series Kyoko is supposed to be like around 22 years old at the beginning and I keep thinking just how incredibly mature she is for her age, and not just the fact that she was widowed at such a young age but when you compare her personality to a 22 year old nowadays, it's very different. She demonstrates a very responsible, dependent adult as well as being polite and being humble to everyone around her. She can take care of herself and an entire apartment complex (even though there's only a few rooms) what 22 year old does that today? For the longest time when I was younger I always thought Kyoko was supposed to be in her early to mid 30s and I know that in the case of Maison Ikkoku, RT kept the characters more realistic to real life ppl and their lifestyles in 80s Japan. I know she's animated but she is such a better role model than the crap they have here in the media nowadays. uggh anyone that lives down here in SoCal KNOWS what most 22 yr old women are like out here....She's also really intelligent and mature with handling situations the way she does; except of course when there's a misunderstanding w/ Godai.
