MANGA CHAP. 540 - REBORN LIGHT

OUR STORY: Chapter opens just after Sesshomaru struck Magatsuhi the fatal blow with his Tenseiga. Kagome feels her powers returning as Magatsuhi fades into oblivion. Kagome is perched above Inuyasha and Sesshomaru on a piece of Naraku sinew, looking down on them. As Magatsuhi dies, Naraku's body convulses. Sesshomaru stand alert; something has caught his attention. There's another convulsion and Kagome is knocked off her perch. Inuyasha see her start to fall. He calls her name and lunges to catch her. As Kagome lands in Inuyasha's arms, the couple is enveloped in a bright aura and Inuyasha's eyes turn from demonic red to his normal golden color. Kagome senses something has happened to Inu and asks him to show her his face. She sees Inu has been fully restored to his hanyou self. They regard each other for a moment, and their deep feelings for each other are plain to see on their faces. Inu says her name softly.

Kagome is overjoyed to see Inu has changed back. He is glad, too, and as he sets Kagome on her feet, he says it's thanks to Kagome's spiritual powers. Kagome says she got her powers back because Sesshomaru killed Magatsuhi. She turns to thank Sessho, but he's no longer standing by. Instead, he is rushing off. He has caught Rin's scent. It's like his nose has been cleared of stuffiness, and he thinks it must be that Kagome's powers have cleared away Naraku's foul jyaki. A forest of Naraku tentacles appears, seemingly attempting to block Sesshomaru's progress. Sessho easily slashes them to ribbons with his claws. He studies burns on his fingertips from Naraku's toxic shouki and thinks Naraku must be losing it, to have revealed Sessho's vulnerability to shouki assaults in such a haphazard and lame fashion.

Scene changes to a view of Kokaku, Shippo and Jaken riding the flying dragon Ah-Un through Naraku's body. Naraku's whole body seems to be vibrating and Jaken wonders what's going on. Shippo fears Naraku has spotted them. Suddenly, tentacles sprout in front of them and one knocks Jaken off the dragon's back. Tentacles carry Jaken off. A moment later another tentacle plucks Shippo off the dragon and tosses him into a forest of tentacles. Shippo tries to be brave but he is very frightened. He calls after the others but when he gets no reply, he cries in terror. Kohaku is alone now. He calls for the others, while wondering just what is going on.

Scene changes back to Inu and Kagome standing close together. Kagome says it's time they went for the Shikon Jewel. Inuyasha is suspicious of the vibrations that've been coursing through Naraku's body. He says it looked up to now like Naraku didn't care if they wandered freely, but Inu suspects there's a trick to all this. Nonetheless, the couple set off to find the jewel.

Meanwhile, Naraku in human form sits naked, contemplating the black jewel floating in front of him. He notices a change in it. A point of light has appeared within the jewel, and Naraku is momentarily taken aback. He realizes this means Magatsuhi has been vanquished and Kagome's powers restored. But then he relaxes. He thinks this would be a light of hope to Inuyasha's group, but he's going to turn it into their light of despair. The jewel then blazes with brilliant light, and beams penetrate throughout his extensive body. Kagome and Inuyasha see a beam of light, and Naraku appears as a face in a wall to tell them it's the light that's returned to the Shikon Jewel. And he says their companions can see this light as well. Kagome immediately speaks of Miroku and Sango. Naraku laughs and asks if they are wondering what happened to those two and what seeing this light might make them think. Inuyasha demands to know what Naraku means by that. He replies that Miroku's Kazaana has reached its limit and most likely, if he opens it one more time, then ...

Scene changes to a view of Miroku lying on a hillside of Naraku-flesh. He notices the vibrations of Naraku's body have stopped. All he can hear now is the hiss of air being drawn into the Kazaana around the edges of his seal. He asks himself if he should just open up the Kazaana and deal Naraku a little damage as he dies. Then he dismisses that idea as pathetic, since he can't deal Naraku a fatal blow as long as he's inside Naraku's body. His musing is interrupted as a beam of light plays upon him. He recognizes this as light from the Shikon Jewel and realizes that Kagome's powers have returned. He thinks this light will lead him to the jewel and Naraku.

Meanwhile, Naraku tells Kagome and Inuyasha about Miroku's intent but says smugly that there's no guarantee that the light Miroku is following is connected to him. Kagome immediately realizes what Naraku is up to - he intends to trick Miroku into opening his Kazaana for one last, fatal time. Naraku laughs as he builds walls of spikes to confine Inu and Kagome, and says Kagome caught on too late. He says her light will kill her friends. THE END (^_*)
