Well, he probably has put up a barrier or something. He couldn't have allowed himself to be out in the open and vulnerability like that. But I think
Kagome's arrow could cause a minor distraction to him so that the illusion would weaken.

But I think Kagome's arrow could cause a minor distraction to him so that the illusion would weaken.Yeah, I'd have to agree that he must have SOMETHING to protect himself, he's proven many times that he's not a moron. He knows that Kagome can sense the tama and her new powers are a match for his. ---Does Naraku know the extent of her new powers; for that matter, does she? |

But I do expect Naraku's power to be much stronger than Kagome and Inuyasha's combined. Especially now with the final ray of light in the tama being forced out. I wouldn't say that Naraku is stronger than Kags and Inu combined, Naraku is certainly threatened by Kags, so, while he is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with, his end is in sight. -While Kag's spiritual powers are strong, I think her greatest power is still her kind heart. Weakness and doubt darken the Tama while love and trust brighten it. |

So, just curious, does anyone think things can get much worse? What else might Naraku do to darken the jewel of the four souls? Or is it time for the good
guys to do more than preventative measures? Any predictions?

Well. I think Kag's arrow will certainly deal a good blow to Naraku. It has to at least hurt him, right?
Aqs far as darkening the tama further, if Rin dies it will certainly cause Kohaku to become conflicted. He killed people when he was possessed while his sister is in control of herself. Would he become angry and darken the jewel? What if Sessy sees Sango kill Rin, or if he stops hiraikotsu and goes after Sango and Kohaku has to step up and defend her, fully knowing what she had intended to do? Then there's still Shippo and Jaken wandering around somewhere.... There's still alot of possabilities, but I agree that the inu-gang can't be brought much lower. |

So I was just thinking about the last moment of weakness for Sango when she took Inu's Tetsusaiga. She hated herself afterwards and was going to go it
alone. What will she do now? She threw hiraikotsu at a defenseless little girl. Even if she's saved, Sango is going to hate herself. Her depression and
self-hatred will only serve to darken the Shikon no Tama. Will she be able to forgive herself and continue to fight Naraku?

Whatever Naraku is up to, he has some serious confidence about it. He could have protected Magatsuhi and kept Kag's powers sealed, and didn't. I had kind of thought that there would be two battles, the first with everyone inside Naraku and the second with everyone outside, fighting in the spot where Naraku first attacked Inu & Kikyo in the village. I hadn't thought of it, but I agree with Tierum's comment that the final battle will probably be against the darkness within the Shikon no Tama. |

Chapter 543 | ||
|
Way to go Kagome! What a relief! Everyone's safe... so far. Foolish Sango, can't believe she really was going to sacrifice Rin. I knew Kohaku and Sessh
(cool close-up of Sessh) would come to Rin's rescue. Sessh did fired at Byakuya instead of Sango, so maybe he's not too pissed at her and accepts that
it was Naraku's fault? Now we know that if Naraku dies, so does Byakuya. Too bad. Looks like the end of Naraku isn't too far away from now. I know
we've been saying that for quite some time, but this time seems believable.

Yeah another awesome chapter. I don't know if I would say that Sesshomaru didn't seem to mad at Sango...haha. I think that after everything he's
gone through for Rin, that he's not going to just overlook someone trying to kill her. Besides, he doesn't know Sango well enough to have any sympathy
for her.
I really liked the title page this time. Sometimes with the series, I think the title pages are a bit too generic (usually just Kagome or Inuyasha looking concerned) so to see that dramatic image of Naraku was a nice change. And its cool to see that Kagome can damage him so much, so easily! It seems like once the final battle gets underway that it might be over with pretty fast! Kohaku certainly didn't seem to hold it against his sister that she tried to murder his friend though... |

Chap 543 | ||

My fav part of the chap: Kag's arrow hitting the mark! I feel so horrible for San. She was so desperate to kill Nar to save Mir that she was willing to kill Rin. |

Oh, I knew it! Byakuya will die if Naraku dies! It was so cool when Nar's arm got ripped off and Bya's ripped off then everything began to fall apart.
*squeals with delight*
It was so sad to see Sango giving herself up to Sessy like that, though it was the honorable thing to do I suppose. Kohaku came to her defense, but will it be enought to deter Sessy's wrath? He's not the most emotional guy around, but he really cares for Rin and is undoubtedly majorly pissed off. Inuyasha has made promises he couldn't keep before, most notably, to always protect Kikyo. Now he's promised that everyone will make it out alive. I sure hope he's right, but Inuyasha can't be certain that he can make this happen - he can't protect everyone at the same time. What is certain is that he will totally beat himself up if anyone is killed. He's also promised to protect Kagome with his life. I REALLY hope it doesn't come to that. Though, this is his story, the title character can't die - right? Sessh did fired at Byakuya instead of Sango, so maybe he's not too pissed at her and accepts that it was Naraku's fault?I hope you're right and he doesn't just decide to kill both of them.... :P |

I feel like it was sort of an ambiguous warning directed at both of them in a way.Yeah. He's never thrown it before, of course. But, then again, he did achieve the kaze no kizu the first time he tried it. He's angry at both of them. He may go easy on Sango because she was under duress. What would Kohaku do if Sessy actually went for his sister? What would Miroku do if Sango was killed because she tried to kill Rin? This is all speculation. I just don't see Sessy killing Sango. Not at this point at least. As Sango put it, they have to defeat Naraku first. |

Well maybe Sessh is really going to attack Sango, or else he wouldn't have just let Byakuya slipped away so easily without even attempting to go after even
though he could. Or, is he thinking to going straight to Naraku and rip his head off. Don't forget, guys, Sessh has developed much compassion recently. So
let's not jump to conclusion yet. I can't bring myself to think that he would kill Sango, as well as Kohaku if he gets in the way.

MANGA CHAP. 543 - VANISHED ARROW OUR STORY: Chapter opens with Kohaku's unsuccessful attempt to get Sango to withhold her attack on the illusory Naraku and real Rin. As Byakuya looks on, she flings her Hiraikotsu. At the exact same time, Kagome fires a powered-up holy arrow at where she believes the real Naraku is hiding. Naraku, meanwhile, sits in his cocoon and watches Sango's strike, knowing that when she kills Rin the Shikon Jewel will feed on her anguish and fill with darkness once again, smothering the spark of light within. Inuyasha can't perceive what Kagome is shooting at and asks why she shot. Kagome and Inu watch her arrow fly and vanish into nothingness. Kagome realizes this is just like during the fight against the miko Hitomiko, when her arrow vanished just before hitting Hitomiko and reappeared behind her to strike Naraku and break his hold on the miko. She recalls Hitomiko's admonition to focus her mind only on her target and believe she will hit it no matter what appears to be standing in the way. Kagome does so, believing with all her heart and soul and mind that this arrow will find and strike Naraku. Naraku's gloating over Sango's situation is interrupted by a huge blast that punches a hole in the wall of his cocoon. An arrow of light flies through the hole and hits Naraku's left arm, severing it at the shoulder.. At that precise instant, Byakuya's left arm vanishes, as does the illusion of Naraku that Sango aimed at. As the illusion vanishes, Rin starts to fall and Sango's Hiraikotsu skims right over her, leaving Rin unharmed, and disappears from sight. But Rin is falling toward a spiky mass of Naraku-flesh. She is too far away for Sango to catch but Kohaku is much closer. Kohaku hops on the flying dragon Ah-Un, swoops down and catches Rin before she hits. He calls to Sango, telling her Rin is safe, but he is disturbed when Sango doesn't react to the good news. Byakuya doesn't seem to be suffering because of his arm being lost. He tells Sango he knows she aimed at Rin in order to kill the illusion of Naraku that he was showing her. (Sango is shocked to realize she attacked a fake Naraku.) Byakuya says that if Sango thought it would save Miroku's life, she didn't care if Rin died. Before Sango can react, her Hiraikotsu comes whirling back out of the darkness, aimed at Byakuya. He dodges and it lodges in a crevice behind him. Sesshomaru emerges from the darkness. It appears he threw the Hiraikotsu at Byakuya. Kohaku and Sango acknowledge Sesshomaru's presence. Byakuya tells Sesshomaru that if he was aiming that thing at him, Sessho was "barking up the wrong tree." He assumes Sessho heard his conversation with Sango so he says he will take his leave and let Sessho and Sango settle things. As Byakuya leaves the scene, he thinks that the loss of his arm indicates something bad hit the "real body," but Byakuya's continued existence as a detachment is proof Naraku and the jewel are still alive. As Sango regards Sesshomaru, her facial expression is one of a person who has lost all hope. She says that if Sessho wants to rip her apart, he can just go ahead. Kohaku is distressed to hear his sister say this. He yells to Sesshomaru that Rin is fine. Sango yells to Sessho that she was ready to kill Rin. Kohaku defends her, saying she was being fooled by an illusion. But Sango says that makes no difference, she was prepared to sacrifice Rin in order to defeat Naraku. She says she's not going to make excuses or beg for her life, but she will ask one favor - that Sesshomaru withhold his retribution until Naraku is defeated and Miroku's Kazaana curse is broken. Sesshomaru stares back at her, his face impassive. Sango waits for his decision. Scene changes to a view of Inuyasha racing along, carrying both Miroku and Kagome. Miroku's illusion of Naraku vanished, leaving the monk a weak and
dispirited mess. He tells Inuyasha to leave him behind. Inu says there's no way he'd do that. Inu says that if he left Miroku by himself, he might be
tricked by another illusion into opening his Kazaana again. Miroku says he doesn't know when it will split and go out of control but if that happens when
Inu and Kagome are close by, they'll die. Inu says that if he were afraid of the Kazaana, he'd never have associated with Miroku. Kagome says she's
sure Sango wanted to be with Miroku, too. Inu saysMiroku shouldn't give up, and that everyone's coming out of this alive... THE END (^_*)

So Sango really was going to kill little Rin in order to destroy Naraku, eh? I'm not really surprised. She was caught in a situation that compelled some kind of action. Remember, Sango is a soldier in a long-running war against hostile demons, she was raised in a village of demon-slayers who faced danger and death every time they left on a mission. Sango knew she'd have Rin's death on her conscience but that didn't dissuade her from carrying out her mission to kill Naraku and save Miroku. In today's terms, Rin's death would be unfortunate "collateral damage" from the destruction of Naraku. While she now faces being "brought up on charges" by Sesshomaru, I don't think she was ashamed of the decision she'd made. She acted as a professional demon-slayer confronted by the biggest, baddest enemy she'd ever faced, with the stakes being life or death for not just Rin but for Miroku and everyone else she knew. She decided to sacrifice the one to save the lives of the many. What upset her and made her defensive, I think, was the realization that Rin might have died for nothing. Sango clearly was shocked to discover she'd been fooled by an illusion and that Rin's death would have been meaningless. But at the time she acted, she was certain she faced her arch-enemy. Rin escaped harm, though, so I'd expect the consequences for Sango in her own soul and from Sesshomaru won't be dire. I think Sessho's matured enough to recognize Sango was in a no-win situation and her action was the best of a bad lot of choices, so he'd be likely to grant Sango the favor she asked. I'm pretty sure it was Sesshomaru throwing the Hiraikotsu back at Byakuya. As to why he missed, it maybe was a combination of Sessho's inexperience with the weapon and Byakuya's very fast reflexes. Or maybe he just wanted to get across a warning to both of them not to "mess with the Sess." The really interesting thing was that Byakuya suffered the same damage as Naraku, indicating a very tight link between Naraku and this detachment. Given Naraku's track record with his previous detachments, it's not surprising that Naraku would be monitoring Byakuya very closely and that Byakuya as a result would be obedient. This chapter indicated to me that Byakuya isn't likely to survive Naraku's death. Meanwhile, we have Inu, Kagome and Miroku on the move again. Miroku likely feels stupid and useless for almost giving up his life to slay an illusion. Inu obviously doesn't want to hear Miroku's defeatist talk. I hope his vow at the end that everyone will get out of this alive will be an accurate prophesy, and not "famous last words." (^_*) . |

Yeah, I guess it would. But Sessh has to know that that is what Naraku wants and defy his wish.
