Didn't Sango recivie some sort of ultimate cure for poison a long time ago in the series that she never used and was forgotten about? I bet somehow
that's finally kicked in inadvertantly allowing Miroku to stay safe despite the amount of poison he's taking in.

I am assuming that the jewel isn't about to be broken into pieces again. I wonder if this is when that arrow, that I keep talking about, is going to make
its reappearance.

I never saw her throw it away. Its disappearance from the plot makes it a good canidate for an unexpected plot twist.

Looking back at the manga (534), I never saw her actually take it. She looked at it and it floated next to her, but she refused to take it, contrary to
Naraku's taunts. Maybe she grabbed it as she fell, but I didn't see any indication of that.

Interesting. This could go about a dozen different ways at this point. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Awww, man. Tierum's right, she never takes the arrow. We'll, so much for that theory. Okay, now I'm completely bewildered. What could possibly
happen next, any guesses?

Chapter 552 | ||

The new chapter is excellent. I can't tell you how excited I was to be able to walk into a store and actually buy a copy of Shonen Sunday for myself, very
cool!
Looks like everything is really coming to a head, Kagome's arrow hit the Shikon Jewel right through the center and didn't shatter it. Naraku is basically all but dead, giving his final speech as he weakens. Everyone is sort of watching him, listening to what he has to say, but they all seem to believe the battle is over and they've won. But then suddenly Naraku is floating right above the Bone Eaters Well and saying his "last words" when he mentions Byakuya and a gigantic Meido Zangetsuha opens behind Kagome and Inuyasha, and thats where the chapter ends. Argh!!!!!!!!!! Really, really good chapter though! I saw two other guys reading Sunday on the train last night. haha Wanted to acknowledge them, but I think they would have thought I was insane. haha |

Yeah, an excellent chapter. Obviously a turning point with Naraku's death. I think Takahashi did a good job of fleshing out Naraku's wish without
redeeming him and making him some sort of tragic figure. He even acknowledged that he'd be going to hell and unable to see Kikyo (though I thought it was
somewhat clear that Kikyo was going to hell too by some of her previous statements, I guess she purified herself or repented).
A great chapter though! I almost thought he'd go through the well there at the end. Next week, I have a job interview out of state, so I have to see about how I'm going to do the summary with Dylan obviously out of the country and unable to do it. I'll try to make it work, but we'll see. |

LET THE JOYOUS NEWS BE SPREAD!!! THE WICKED OLD NARAKU...AT LAST... IS DEAD!!! |
|||
Hooray |
|||
|
Naraku died much the way he lived. As a floating disembodied head.
Was Naraku just fooling himself all this time, convincing himself that it was only the lingering trace of Onigumo inside him that lusted after Kikyou? It sure looks that way. Damn cliffhanger. Can't wait until the next chapter. |

MANGA CHAP. 552 - NARAKU'S DEATH OUR STORY: Chapter opens as Kagome shoots her arrow at Naraku, believing with all her might that her shot will hit the Shikon Jewel. Her arrow disappears just before it would enter Naraku's black sphere and Kagome silently begs whatever powers that be that her arrow pierces the jewel. Deep inside the sphere, Naraku still lives. But he is nothing more than a demonic head and spinal column. He recalls Kagome's realizing that the jewel didn't grant him his true wish. And he admits his true wish was simply that he wanted Kikyou's heart, her love. His musing is interrupted by a flare of energy from Kagome's arrow. He sees it coming and regrets that he won't be going to the place Kikyou went. The arrow strikes home. Outside, Kagome and Inuyasha see Naraku's great black sphere turn white and villagers note the blobs of Naraku's deadly shouki are vanishing. Miroku realizes the shouki around the village is being purified. Kohaku, standing next to Sesshomaru, Jaken and Rin, asks if this means Kagome's arrow defeated Naraku. Kagome herself wonders if she succeeded. Naraku's great body flies apart. A huge piece almost hits Kagome, but Inuyasha snatches her up and leaps aside. They land next to the well as the last of Naraku's huge body is purified and vanishes. All that's left is Naraku's head and spine and the Shikon Jewel with Kagome's arrow right through it. The jewel now is white and Naraku's head has resumed its human appearance. Naraku's headOkay, and the jewel hover over the well. Inuyasha calls to Naraku as Kagome's arrow crackles with energy. Naraku goes "hmph" in reply, but it appears Naraku is crying. The others join Kagome and Inu at the well as Naraku says he made a wish on the jewel at the moment Byakuya attacked and "cut" Kagome. He says his wish will be granted when he dies. As he disappears in a burst of purifying light, his last thought is that his wish was the wish of the Shikon Jewel itself. Naraku's enemies watch his demise with hard eyes. Inuyasha hears a rumble and turns to see a huge, black, circular Meidou gate open up right behind Kagome ... THE END (^_*) MY THOUGHTS: Okay, this time it looks like Naraku really did die. (Of course, last chapter it looked like Sesshomaru killed Naraku but he obviously didn't succeed.) So I'm awaiting confirmation by the Kazaana disappearing from Miroku's hand. If it's gone, then Naraku is truly dead, otherwise he is still around in some form that allows him to exert an influence on this world. And I think RT would use Miroku's Kazaana to demonstrate Naraku really is dead. So he's still somwhere despite his apparent death. Next question: Where does the Meidou behind Kagome lead to? Natural assumption is to Hell, but this isn't a normal Meidou so it may lead elsewhere, like into the Shikon Jewel. So I think the final wish of Naraku and the Jewel may be that Kagome be drawn into the eternal battle for supremacy between the light and dark sides so that she can determine once and for all whether the jewel will be a tool of good or of evil. No more balance of forces that can go either way depending on the Jewel's user. If Kagome wins, the Jewel will be a tool of good, incapable of corruption. A lucky charm. But if she loses then the Jewel will wreak havoc upon the world. And it may be that Naraku used his death in this world to add "soul power" to the Jewel's dark side for the battle to come. He did say, after all, that he's going to a different place than Kikyou did. If Kagome gets pulled into this Meidou as I expect, Inuyasha will inevitably jump right in after her so they will be fighting side by side to determine the Jewel's future nature. And all that the others will be able to do is watch and wait. Perhaps if there is such a battle of souls, we might finally see Midoriko and learn all the details of how and why the Jewel came to be. At least we won't have a long wait to find out where things go next. (^_*)

Unbelievable! Naraku is actually... dead?! And I'm actually... a bit sad that he is?!
Aw, all he wanted was Kikyo's affection. And he looked so pitiful. Poor Naraku. Until he said he wished the Meidou on Kagome, that is. So someone guess it right saying that it is probably a delayed Meidou. He wants Kagome in hell with him? |

I'm guessing that it's going to be like that one chapter, where Inuyasha and Sesshomaru get stuck together in a meido, and Inuyasha cuts open a hole
back into where they were, preventing he and Sesshomaru from disappearing into nothingness. The question is, who will be going in with Kagome? Or, who will
save Kagome, and possibly go into the meido instead?

MANGA CHAP. 553 - INCIDENT AT THE WELL
OUR STORY: As chapter opens, the Meidou gate that formed behind Kagome pulls her into it. She calls desperately to Inuyasha to save her. He leaps toward the Meidou but it vanishes before he can reach it. He stands bewildered, wondering what just happened. Shippo says this must be related to Byakuya's cut at Kagome. He says he saw how Byakuya stole the youkai power of the wandering Meidou Inu loosed during the recent battles with Naraku. Inu recalls Naraku's statement about making his last wish when Byakuya cut Kagome and how that wish would be granted upon his death. Inu is worried about where Kagome might have gone and fears for her safety. In the midst of all this, Kaede notices something in the landscape has changed -- the Bone-Eater's Well is no longer there, but has vanished! The ground looks as if the well had never existed. Inu looks around, totally in shock at this development. He thinks that if Naraku had simply wanted Kagome dead, Byakuya could have killed her. But instead he let her live while Naraku came to Kaede's village. Inu thinks that maybe the well was Naraku's real target all along. Shippo walks across the spot where the well was and asks: What if Kagome has returned to the world beyond the well? Scene changes to the modern era, to the courtyard of the Higurashi Shrine. Kagome's modern-age friends Eri, Ayumi and Yuka have stopped by to ask Souta how his sister is doing. They are dressed in high school skirt-and-blazer uniforms. Gone are the sailor suits of middle school. They are concerned with Kagome's health because she missed the high school entrance ceremony. Souta says she was still too weak to attend, but inwardly he's worried for Kagome because she'd assured him she would be back for the entrance ceremony. There's a sudden loud thud from inside the shrine's well house and the structure shakes for a moment. Yuka thinks it was an earthquake but Eri says it seemed to come from within the building. Souta doesn't want them to snoop inside but Eri says it sounded like something broke. They enter, and the sight that greets them prompts Souta to holler for his mother and grandpa to come quick. They do, and Souta points out that the Bone-Eater's Well has vanished, gone as if it had never existed. Kagome's mother is fearful, wondering where Kagome is. Back in the Feudal Era, Inuyasha is still fretting, seeking to discern what Naraku wished for. Miroku, meanwhile, notices an odd feeling in his Kazaana hand. He unwraps it to reveal a normal human hand, free of the Kazaana curse. The Wind Tunnel is no more! Sango gets tears in her eyes as she realizes Naraku's curse has been broken. Miroku says this means Naraku is truly dead, but he says the Shikon Jewel also is gone. He wonders what happened to it. Inuyasha is done with fretting and decides on a course of action. He draws Tessaiga, implores it to take him to where Kagome is, opens a big Meidou crescent and then leaps feet-first into its stygian blackness with Tessaiga in hand. His companions react with surprise at this unexpected act. Even Sesshomaru is taken aback by this move. As Inu falls through the blackness, he's thinking that the Shikon Jewel feared Kagome above all else and if the jewel is still alive it will never allow Kagome to live in peace. He silently begs Kagome to wait for him, that he will definitely find her. For Kagome, the Meidou's blackness vanishes. In the light, we see just her face in profile, framed by her hair. She's looking upward. Last page shows Kagome in the modern era, standing on a walkway in front of a school. She's wearing a high school skirt-and-blazer uniform (identical to what her modern-era friends were wearing at the shrine) and carrying a shoulder bag for schoolbooks. A breeze ruffles Kagome's hair. Her face has this stunned "deer-in-the-headlight" look. Just what is going on here!?!? THE END (^_*) |

NARAKU: (b.) Dec. 24, 1997, Chap. 54 -- (d.) May 11, 2008, Chap. 553. R.I.P. This villain lived for 499 chapters. He was first introduced by name in Chap. 54
but didn't actually show up until Chap. 59 on Feb. 4, 1998. He appeared to die in Chap. 552 last week but his genuine death was confirmed in this
week's chapter with the disappearance of Miroku's Kazaana. Naraku's officially dead and gone, Miroku's free of his curse and Sango now can see
a future with her monk.
But Naraku's legacy continues. His death shifts the focus to the Shikon Jewel itself. As to the last wish the corrupted jewel wanted Naraku to make, it probably was for Kagome to return to where she came from and not come back. While Naraku might not know exactly where Kagome came from, the jewel would know because it was there in the modern era. Naraku also likely knew the well was involved in her being present to fight him and the jewel, so getting rid of it would keep her from coming back. And the sweetener for Naraku is the expectation Inuyasha will mourn the loss of Kagome for ages, suffering the agony of lost love all over again. Sending Kagome back to where she came from could put Kagome in the position she would have been in had she not been pulled into the past, hence the high school uniform. And the disappearance of the Bone-Eater's Well would ensure she cannot return to the Feudal Era. The wish most definitely was NOT that the well had never existed, because people on both sides of it recall its existence and recognize the well now is gone. I've long thought it was the jewel that linked the two eras because it was present in both Feudal and modern eras, as was the Bone-Eater's Well. By being Kikyou's reincarnation, Kagome also had a presence in both eras. I think the jewel used Kagome and the well as a way to return to the past from which it was so untimely ripped by Kikyou's choice to burn it along with her body. And now, with its return to the past and with full power restored, the jewel wanted to sever any connection with the only person who could do it harm. Why not just kill her? Kagome with her powers and her allies has always been hard to harm, let alone kill. Rather than risk another failure at killing her, the jewel went for the next-best thing, stranding her 500 years in the future with no way back to the past. I'm pretty sure that what Kagome is experiencing is not an illusion created by Byakuya. I can't recall any instance of Byakuya pulling off an illusion where he wasn't present to maintain it. And this illusion would require detailed knowledge of modern-era Japanese schools that I doubt Byakuya had. No, I'm pretty sure that this return to the modern era is a real event for Kagome, and likely is an attempt by the jewel to immerse Kagome in the life of an "ordinary woman" girl so she'll put the jewel out of her mind. (But what became of her bow? She had it when she was pulled in to the Meidou so where is it now? This loose end will become quite important, I think.) But Naraku/jewel didn't reckon with Inuyasha and his attachment to Kagome, his willingness to do anything to protect her. Since she disappeared into a Meidou, Inu figured he could open a second Meidou to go after her. So in he jumps. The alternative of going on without Kagome was simply unthinkable for him. He's banking on their emotional connection -- their love -- guiding him to her side. Yes, the well is gone but if the Meidou offers an alternate means for bypassing the centuries separating Inu from Kagome, he will find the way. His task may be made easier because he's going with the natural flow of time, past to future. I think that Inu will succeed in reaching Kagome, and his arrival at her side will offer us a super Inu/Kag moment and also will trigger the sequence of events that reveals where the purified jewel went and that turns the jewel permanently into a good-luck charm. So we must wait for the spoilers and chapter. I look forward to the next chapter with great anticipation. (^_*)

Well, now that the Wind Tunnel is gone, I am now satisfied that Nar is FINALLY dead.
But whoa! What IS indeed going on around here? What is the Shikon Jewel's wish on Kag? Why is she back in the present and OK? I'm not
