Frenchhie,
Nope. Sorry. ^_^; Just an example of what people can find when scratching the surface of mindless crap. Tofu, Some of us can't stop thinking... From what I've heard (from wrestling fans, no less) I would not be sufficiently entertained to counter the irritation/frustration. "I know that! Everybody knows that!
But what about a little artistic license!" |

- that's why i torment my little brother with the most annoying and high pitched voice i can muster. the voice i make sounds like a gay skeletor and i follow him around the house doing that til he starts to get pissed. its always fun!>:D - drinking requires no brain power (actually kills brain cells) take that liver! i do this at least 2 times a week - there are some other things but, let's try to keep it a PG environment. ;) xoxo - the incurably jaded frenchhie

Hm... here's an oddity. I got into it when I loved Pokemon for a while (now it sucks. OH, now that I look back at it... it sucked earlier than that.) and stumbled upon a "toons" magazine. Figures-- y'know that quote that used to be on the Ranma 1/2 page for Viz? It was that EXACT issue. I read about it and nearly hurled every internal organ out. Gross! Who wanted to read about some guy and his sexual problems?
It would figure out to be me. Over time, here in Santa Cruz, especially, there was more and more exposure to the anime. I finally decided once and for all to ask an expert: the local comic book geek. all he said was that it was "the funniest anime series of all time." now, I can't agree more! <div align="center"> <p><font face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif" size="-1">Hey, guess what? Kind of like Ranmafan1432 I saw it when I was younger too. I remember I had a cousin that had the comics in chinese and I couldn't read them; back then it
was harder to find and I had to get it from an asian video store that my filipino side of the family frequented and it was subtitled. It was probably a knock
off b/c I don't think viz dubbed it until the early-mid nineties

Can I ask you, Diko Linnai, do you want to be friends on yuku? It'd be nice to be friends, but if you don't want to that's OK too |

Don't worry I can always use more friends ^_^. Oh and yes I am glad I have such fond memories of the "Old Era" I don't know if anyone here
is an Osamu Tezuka fan but again I LOVED Unico and Phoenix! I remember when I was watching the first episode of Ranma where Ranko was undressing for the bath
and Akane slaps her in the bathroom my aunt saw that scene and freaked out and told my mom I was what I was watching and my mom replied "God I wish *I*
was shaped liked that! That's why they're DRAWN!!" *sigh* fond memories....

When I was 4 years old, Pokémon didn't exist yet,
the days of Grunge hadn't passed yet and Kurt Kobain had only been dead for a few months, Bill Clinton was in the second year of his presidency, most Americans who knew about Japanese cartoons referred to it as Japanimation, they were thinking of Astroboy or Speed Racer when they used these terms, and no one except a small demographic of pioneering otakus were even aware of any high class anime, the sad thing is that it took Pokémon, which was a wretched and contemptible commercial phenomenon that pandered shamlessly and blatantly to its target audience, children, Pokémon had none of the charm or graces of fine art, which it wasn't, it was just a money making device, a work of fine art does not have to cater to its audience, actually, it should frustrate and confuse its audience to a certain extent, but the one thing it must never do is bore the audience, any emotion from the audience is preferable to boring unemotional indifference, art should always provoke or invoke emotion, well coordinated passion is the true essence of art, logic provides the structure, coordination, and order, emotion provides the passion, creativity, and sensation, art is truly the harmonious unification of the left and right sides of the brain, this apparently results in an entertaining experience, which proves that Ranma is a magnificent work of art,

Diko Linnai wrote: Heh, I think we all had the "please don't let my parents walk in while I'm watching this" moments if we were young when we were into Ranma. I can remember my mom had some concerns when she found out what it was about. That was 1993, so I was... 12. That plus having to having to ask for $25 every month for the tapes, I'm surprised I was able to get them all. |

Yoiko Hibiki wrote: All those tapes! That is quite an admirable collection! I first watched Ranma ½ when I was about 14. But then, the TV station that aired it started messing around with the schedules and I stopped watching. It wasn't until two years ago that I started watching the anime on youtube and got hooked on it. My need for closure (plus a slight feeling of guilt for watching it for free on the Internet) got me to buy all 36 volumes. Even though, the ending wasn't what I hoped it'd be, I'm still glad I bought all the manga. |

I was born in the year of 1981. At that time Urusei Yatsura had been already released and its producers had succeeded in the adaptation into anime. I don't remember when I first met UY, but I can say that I already knew about UY on TV when I was a very small child who had not learnt reading and writing yet. Even though UY was reaired several times and I watched it until I knew how stories would evolve before they actually did on TV whenever I watched reaired episodes, I was not so attracted by the Takahashi's masterpiece for a long time. Recently I have noticed why such a weird thing happened. The answer is simple. Her masterpiece UY contains too difficult factors for infants to understand; e.g. love relationships, cultural knowledge, lots of multi-meaning word plays. So from the late '80s to early '90s my attention was paid mainly to such serials as "The Shonen Jump" ran; "Dragonball," "Yu Yu Hakusho" etc. rather than Rumic World. But in those days I also enjoyed many anime such as "Kingyo Chuihou," "Sailor Moon," "V Gundam" etc. on TV. Among them there was an anime whose characters look like those of UY. That was "Ranma 1/2." I actually watched all the first 18 episodes when first aired in 1989. For some reason the airing was cancelled out and restarted with the title of "Nettohen" later. Unfortunately then I was not aware of restarting of Ranma1/2 but I kept the notable anime in my mind for years to come. In 1996 I happened to watch the TV show "Tetsuko no heya" and the guest was a woman on that day. I did not pay attention to her so much but for some reason I kept watching the program. In the course of their conversation, I found that she was a voice actress and some of characters she had played were introduced one after another. Among them was female Ranma. On that day I met Ranma for the first time in 8 years. The voice actress was Megumi Hayashibara But at that time I did not have opportunity of watching Ranma anymore. But in 1998 I accidentally watched "Ranma 1/2" reaired and at last I found that was very funny and interesting. Because by that time I had grown up and felt that manga which Jump carries are childish and violent, I was absorbed in Ranma. I watched reaired Ranma everyday but the program came to an end soon. Again my life was free from Ranma. Around the year of 2000, I had difficulty in passing universities entrance exams. To tell the truth
I went through the pity life of ronin like Yusaku Godai. Even after I succeeded in entering a college, I don't want to see the status of ronin. I had a
chance of watching Maison Ikkoku on TV, but I watched only part of first episode. I could not bear to see Yusaku suffering in the "pity life." But I
have ever watched only its kanketsuhen on TV in the middle of night. Only in recent years have I found the Rumic World site on the net, and I rediscover how enjoyable the Rumic World is. |

Hmm..well, it's been so long.. let's see. I first picked up a Ranma manga when I found it in my brother's room. I saw the panda, Genma, of course,
and I had to read it. I think I was 8 or so. I was captivated by the boy who was also a girl - a really funny concept at the age when I was starting to be
interested in boys. From there, he let me read it from the beginning and I was hooked. Now that I look back on it, I think it was strange that my protective
older brother didn't mind me seeing those boobie shots, panty thefts, and martial arts battles but, you know, it really isn't really a racey manga - at
least, I wasn't effected by those things. Well, to make a long story short, I read some of Takahashi's other works - then some other manga and
that's what's made me the otaku I am today.
