So in a beauty competition between Ranma and Kyoko... well, the fact that we know Ranma is really a guy sort of costs him a few points in that department. At least for me. Sure Ranma's pretty, but Kyoko would probably get my vote.

I think Kyoko would probably make a better girlfriend/wife than female Ranma. *laughs* But Kyoko is a grown-man's woman. She's that kind of attractive I think. Sure female Ranma has some big ta-tas... but so does Kyoko. Akemi tells her so!

Ranchan, seriously, if you don't have anything to add to this topic don't post.
This is a Maison Ikkoku forum, not Ranma. |

i haven't really read too much MI but from what I see, I think that she's very beautiful. Like you guys mentioned, she is the sort of female an adult guy'd probably be interested in. She's mature, runs her own place, has a nice physical body and pleasant face.
There can be a lot said about a woman who doesn't have to SHOW that she's got it - unlike Akemi, who openly flaunts her nice body. What can be inferred is that she is not prideful, or showy. I think that her reaction to envy is far more mature than Akane's or Lum's jealous and often violent outbursts. Kyoko being an adult woman would naturally give up childish tantrums. Such restraint when one's upset shows a lot of maturity, though too much kept unsaid is not healthy. On another note... WOW! You guys are really evolved! Most women compliment other women as being attractive and its no big deal, but men I know would never admit another guy was attractive. I'm glad you guys are so openminded and mature! How comforting! xoxo - the incurably jaded frenchhie

I think that they are just speaking their mind. I think we all think it, but never say it... I think... .....eh?! sou desho?! I still need to get there. Well, I ate my toshikoshi soba, went to sentou, and watch the Kouhaku Uta-Gassen. Watch the countdown with Ayu, which she messed up... ^^; She was off a second. Hahaha. No matter. It was funny so... AKEMASHITE OMEDETOU GOZAIMASU!!!!!!
But why is Jump moving to Tuesday all of a sudden?! |

She's nice-looking, but not as exotic as Lum or Shampoo. She's a bit more of a plain Jane at times, rather conservative, but still an attractive, motherly, modest, SMART-looking figure, more similar to Sakura, Shinobu, and in a way, Sango (I think Takahashi may have modeled her after Sakura like she obviously modeled Shampoo after Lum). But don't you dare say she's better than my darling Lum!

How Beautiful? | ||

All I have to say is this: I saw volume 1 of the manga (Japanese edition) on the bookstore shelf. If you've seen it, she has turquoise hair, but that didn't grab me as much as the face. She was beautiful enough, in other words, to make me buy the manga, and I'm glad of that!

I don't think that characters such as Kyoko and Mitaka would be considered very attractive if you just saw a picture of them, as they are only drawings, and not very detailed drawings at that. What makes them attractive is their personalities and especially how many other characters view them as attractive.

... I can't see how people are arguing over this when it was made rather clear by both the anime and the manga that both of them are way above average appearance. However since it appears that some of you aren't convinced I'm going to supply evidence, starting with Mitaka...
1) Both in the Manga and in the anime we see that Mitaka is literally surrounded by women that would quite possibly kill to be in Kyoko's place. 2) His appearance is frequently praised or causes prejudgment. In the Manga, Kyoko's farther sees him as little more then a playboy. Kyoko also mentally makes a comment that people might misjudge Mitaka based on his appearance (this is right before she sees him in the dog shop). 3) When introduced to Mitaka, Akemi's first comment was "kill me!" and Mitaka hadn't even said a word! So no personality was required at that moment, even that is his second reason for his attractiveness. On to Kyoko... 1) Godai's first encounter with Kyoko stuns him literally... 2) Some people have commented that if Kyoko's style was different, more men would be after her, but a few people have failed to note certain things. a) Except for Master and individuals of minor importance, almost every male individual was attracted to Kyoko at some point in the story. Kentaro for one before Ikoku arrives, the store merchants, Sakamoto makes it clear several times that he is jealous of Godai, Nikaido... Yotsuya is Yotsuya and so is his own exception. b) Other then going to tennis and shopping, Kyoko doesn't socialize very much and so what was listed above is the total male population she has been exposed to and so far close to 90% of them have fallen under her spell even before fully knowing her. 3) The most repetitive comment in the whole Manga/Anime was how Kyoko always looked sexy or great in whatever she wore and the comments came from the shop owners on two occasions, however it was frequently Godai who made the comments since it is from his perspective that the story is most frequently told. 4) On one of the early dates (a few days after the broken car concert movie fiasco), Kozue makes a comment on how good looking both Mitaka and Kyoko are. I could list more such as the comments in the baths and other situations but some of them are ambiguous and don't tell much. |

I agree with you vivitron, and add this exemple :
In the first pisode, when Kyoko ask workers the way to ikkoku-kan, then later in the episode (in the evening of the same day), these workers said : "Ikkoku-kan, how pity for such a beauty !", or something like that (sorry, it's only by memory) ;) __________________________________________________ Baf. Maybe I just have different taste than most guys, but Lum is the only one of Takahashi's main female protagonists that I've never felt attracted to in
the least. I could see myself falling for Kyoko, Akane, or Kagome, but Lum... she's pretty, but her looks are a lot stronger than her personality. Same
thing with Shampoo, they're both a little too vapid for me (Shampoo moreso than Lum, of course). And I have to disagree with Kyoko not being a supermodel
kind of pretty. Most supermodels don't do anything for me (though that's nothing against them, I just don't get visually stimulated that easily),
but Kyoko's a damn pretty lady.

For my part, I thought I'd add just a little. Kyoko gets credit for being "motherly" and "conservative" and "modest". I
think the widow's mourning heavily influences that. But when she wants to get it on, she gets it on. When it was hot, and she was feeling good for being
complimented by Mitaka, she was wearing those short shorts. Wow! Even Lum don't hold a candle there.
And speaking of Lum, I hear what you're saying. I agree with you. Lum is less cute in my eyes due to the lack of depth to her personality. She's fine and everything, and loves Ataru and all that (why that is, I have no idea) but her emotions are simply hot and cold. There isn't this depth that Akane and Kyoko have. So both Akane and Kyoko rate higher in my book than Lum. And Kyoko takes it all!

I'd like to put in my two cents 5 years after the debate started as well... a) I agree Kyoko is obviously a knockout, particularly obvious early on in the
series when she's often drawn in a very alluring fashion, perhaps a reflection of how Godai sees her. As the series goes on Godai's infatuation with
her body becomes a real love for her, and I think the art reflects that... she doesn't have to be presented as such a pinup because that's not the
focus of the story anymore. She's also older, and, whether intentional or not, appears to fill out slightly as time goes on. (I do not mean she gains
weight or gets heavy, but some of the early pictures of her, especially in jeans, she looks really thin.) b) Lum. Still my favorite Takahashi girl. I don't
think she's as one dimensional as you make her out to be. This thread has all the posters on it who were really active when I first came here.

At first I thought the question was "how beautiful is Kyoko" but now attraction takes on a different meaning...
As far as her appearance, she is very sweet and conservative and has a whole lot of natural beauty. You don't really see her wearing make up unless it's somewhat of a special occasion but you know she doesn't need it. On a side lil note I think she looks absolutely gorgeous in the "Hidamari" opening credits. Now as far as attracting men, her personality is loving and entirely friendly and somewhat innocent, even though at times you can tell she's trying to hide her sorrow for Soichiro. Kyoko has just got a lot to offer! ^_^
