Well, really, compared to some of the other things that happen in the manga, I think Cologne's treatment of Mousse is rather mild.
ITS not cheap labor its abuse, and she should go to jail for it.It's just a manga, I don't really think there's any reason to be as worked up as you seem to be about it. Sure, she can me mean to him sometimes, but I still say she's not the worst character in the series and a rather okay person overall. |

No. You are utterly and completely missing the point.
Mousse is my favourite Ranma½ character but that is beside the point. What is relevant is how Cologne sees Mousse. The point is: She does not treat him well (but not considerably worse than a traditionally-minded non-monkish master would treat an uppity non-favourite student*), but she treats him remarkably well for someone she's not supposed to want hanging around and could get rid of easily. Conventional wisdom says that Cologne (and Shampoo) dislikes Mousse because he annoys Shampoo with his pursuit, intereferes with their plots to catch Ranma and generally makes a fool of himself - in short, any of the epithets used previously. Cologne also has the power and quite likely the tribal authority to punish Mousse (they're outside of Joketsukozu jurisdiction, but that doesn't stop them applying their law to other issues). With extreme prejudice. She's also had fourteen or so years before the series begins to force him to see the error of his ways. To sum it up (once again): Cologne could have treated Mousse much worse. If she was a cruel woman who hated his guts she should have. Yet she doesn't. She balances between traditional master-student/servant and the A Boy Named Sue defence. When did Cologne care about Ranma's feelings? Nobody (well, nobody in this discussion) ever said Mousse is mean to Shampoo. Shampoo herself, on the other hand, makes it quite clear that she frequently finds his behaviour annoying. *I vaguely remember a scene from Farewell, My Concubine where one of the characters were punished by having a slightly-bigger-than- a-toothbrush stick whisked around inside his mouth for messing up. And that was acting school, not martial arts.

lets just agree to disagree. I guess she COULD have been much worse but she SHOULD have been much better.

Actually, the point was it it might not even be Cologne's views but
merely what "everybody" assumes Cologne's views since they, like you, notice the treatment and have a good idea what Mousse does to deserve it. (Which brings us back to the treatment actually being comparatively lenient.) Careful balancing between not losing face (has to punish Mousse) and keeping the options open (Mousse is to "valueable" - as an individual, as a back-up plan in case Ranma doesn't work out and as a potential match to bring one of the non-Shampoo female martial artists to the Joketsuzoku - to drive away). Cologne is not really anti-Mousse (she approved of a potential Mousse/Akane), she just has a very strong preference for Ranma/Shampoo.

RanmaFan1432, point taken about Nihau My Concubine. But u say in Vol 25 Cologne is mean to Mousse. R u talking bout the Invincible Glasses storyline? cause i
dont see it there. She wasnt mor mean to Mousse than he was to her. The Invincible Glasses storyyline is arguably one story in which Cologne implies that she
cares about Mousse. She told him how to use the glasses in a way that would restore his honour, (and ultimately earn him a date with Shampoo, which Cologne
approved)
