Sorry to double post, but on a different note, I was thinking if any of you believe Inuyasha and Kagome's ending will mirror that of Suzuko and Shukumaru of Fire Tripper? After hearing that the manga may end at 558, I thought back to this story which, you could say, was an ancestor of Inuyasha.
And on ANOTHER completely different note, I was thinking about what Kagome said about Kikyo's last wish and it occured to me that yeah, Kikyo got to see Inuyasha 'one more time' in the body of Kagome, but Kagome also achieved Kikyo's goal of making Inuyasha human - to a certain extent. She was able to make Inuyasha become more comfortable with his human emotions. Kagome was able to get Inuyasha to embrace friendship, companionship, sorrow and love in a way Kikyo was never able to. So, even though Kikyo didn't get exactly what she wanted and the results of the wish might not have been exactly what she intended, the ultimate result of the wish was positive and Inuyasha is better for it.

Yeah, you're right taht Kikyo really did see Inuyasha through her own eyes after Urasue revived her, but their relationship really developed through
Kagome. When Kikyo was revived, their relationship was strained to say the least. Through Kagome's eyes she was able to see the real Inuyasha, the human
heart and love which had been dormant for his entire life. ---okay, so I'm a hopeless romantic, so kill me.

ever been in love. I think he liked that Kagura lady, but she died. Maybe when Kohaku's sister marries that monk, they could make it a double wedding! I
sure wish I could get a pretty new dress for the wedding. Maybe Kaede can help me get a new dress. I love happy endings!

It seems like Inuyasha's confession is getting really high marks from everyone. I think after waiting this long for him to admit it, that Takahashi put it out there in a really romantic and unique way. Its never just "I love you!" with her is it? Its Godai getting drunk and yelling his love, or Ranma saying "Akane's my fiancee, touch her and I'll kill you!"....always something totally unique that gets the real emotion of her character's love over to the reader in a way that a mushy "I love you" couldn't. It's also apparent Kagome has figured out the Jewel is a con artist that doesn't grant what the person really wished for.Yeah, and I think its ironic that she might never have known this if it weren't for Naraku. It was only through dealing with him that she was able to find out that the Jewel didn't grant his wish, and he even admitted it. Like herbkir said, she knows the Tama is a charlitain and she's put together in her head what happened as a result of others' wishes. She won't wish to be with Inuyasha because that was exactly what Kikyo wished. Her wish is going to be a doozy and she's admitted that she's frightened of the result.I think you're right Ryogasgirl and I also think that your mention of Firetripper is going to bear fruit. The only thing I can think of that would frighten Kagome is losing her loved ones. I don't think she's going to have to say goodbye to Inuyasha, but I'm thinking now she might not be able to return to the present to see her family. The fact that Takahashi recently showed the nightmarish version of the present where Kagome is with her friends and family but still unhappy without Inuyasha makes me think that its clear in her mind that he is where her future is rather than the modern era, additionally the fact that Suzuko abandoned the present to live in the past adds some weight to that argument as well. As far as Midoriko goes, I don't think we're going to see her face and possibly not even see her again. She was such a fleeting presence in this chapter (and every chapter she's ever appeared in). Personally seeing her face wouldn't mean anything to me, I have absolutely no emotional attachment to her as a character, unlike Soichiro Otonashi. I also don't think that the right wish will have anything to do with Midoriko. She's shown herself to be pretty coldhearted in the series (wanting Koga and Kohaku to die to reform the Jewel) so I don't think she'd be trustworthy in that regard. Maybe our esteemed hosts here are hearing of this and have thoughts.Yeah, I know everyone's sort of talked about this already, but 558 is going to be the end. Some sites have it right and some wrong. Wikipedia had some bad info on it the other day in fact, but it will be the end of the series. Dive!! ended this week, Inuyasha will end in issue 29 and three new series will debut in issues 29, 30, and 31. Two of the three new series look okay.... The official announcement about IY ending from Shogakukan should be Tuesday night here in the US. I know we've all been waiting for the series to end for awhile, but now that I know when its actually going to end I feel a bit depressed about it. I'm ready for it to end, yes, but I'm nervous about it too. haha It'll be weird not to have new stories with these characters anymore. And just briefly about Kikyo, I have to give her a lot of credit for "humanizing" Inuyasha. I know a lot of that backstory was shown in the anime rather than the manga, but I think it was her love for him that tamed Inuyasha (I hate using that word in this sense, but...) and he sort of lost all the positive steps he'd made once he thought she'd betrayed him... Hey, is anyone going to give an opinion about my idea, of Kagome using the meido as a portal?Could be, but I don't think they'll go to the modern era. |

Oooo, so good. I think we're going to get a lot of resolution next week for sure. I admit the first thing I thought when the Jewel started cracking was
"Nooooooo! The whole series is going to re-start from the beginning!" but then it sort of disintegrated and Kagome and Inuyasha didn't look
horrified, so I think we can rule out that ending. haha
The way the chapter was paced and the timing of everything was amazing. It really felt like this race against time with the Shikon Jewel pressuring Kagome to make her wish, and her holding out against it while Inuyasha was trying to find his way to her. Compared to what else is out there in shonen manga, I just have to say that no one can write women like Takahashi can. She just nails it. Kagome is never wimpy or hysterical but isn't some kind of tough-as-nails badass either. She's just so right. She's a real 15 year old who's been put into these difficult situations and relies on her own strength to perservere. More than anything thats what I got out of this chapter, that it was a wonderful showcase for this brilliant character that Takahashi has built for 12 years. |

I really can't believe it. This is the second-to -last chap of the whole series. I really loved it how Inu and Kag finally made the Shikon Jewel gone forever.... HALLELUYAH! 
When Inu used the Meidou and was suddenly there w/Kag, their song came in my head. I felt my tears coming down my face as they hugged. |

That's it, it's official it's almost over.
 Well, I was so happy when Kagome could hear Inuyasha. I was surprised when she admitted that she
almost lost herself to the darkness. She heard Inuyasha's voice and she gained hope. The youkai were fighting for their lives when they tried to convince
Inuyasha that the hope he'd given Kagome was actually a bad thing, but that worked against them as well, as he only searched for her more fervently. The
hope they have in each other and the way Kagome's need to be with Inuyasha opened a rip for him to blast though makes me believe that they not only want to
be together, but they need to be together.
Some people may be disillussioned by the simplicity of the final wish, but "Disappear forever" was the only wish that really could have worked. We all knew it had to be a selfless wish, and that's about as selfless as they come. More importantly, as I said before in a previous post, it can't just be selfless, it has to be the right wish. The Tama misconstrued every other wish it had been given. This unambiguous wish was the only one capable of really destroying the Shikon no Tama. Oh, I almost forgot my fangirl squeal SQUEEEE!!!!! Okay, so no deep, passionate kiss, but they realize they can't live without each other and they are connected in a deep bond - if it was a color page, I could totally see a red string tying them together.  Oh and how about that last panel where
they're together with deep emotion etched in their faces. That was a powerful scene.
I also hope the last chapter is really long. I want to know what happens to everyone, past and present. So many loose ends. Anyone else wondering about Kagome's bow and her powers? What about the groups waiting at the site of the vanished wells? Will Kouga ever find love? Will Sesshoumaru forgive Sango? What will become of Rin? Will Eri, Yuka and Ayumi find out where Kagome's really been? Most of all: what are Kagome and Inuyasha going to do now that they're floating around in nothingness?? "Emotional final chapter" - no kidding! |

MANGA CHAP. 557 - I WANT TO BE WITH YOU
OUR STORY: Chapter opens with Kagome in the Meidou with the Jewel, in the depths of despair. But then she hears Inuyasha's voice, apparently coming from fairly nearby, and she takes heart. Within the Jewel, Inuyasha yells as loud as he can for Kagome to not make any wish until he can get to her. He yells that she's to wait until he's by her side. He asks if she can hear him. She yells back that she can hear him, and he sounds close by. The youkai within the Jewel tell Inuyasha he's a fool, that the only way he and Kagome will be together is if she wishes to be with him. And then she will be absorbed into the jewel to take the place of the "fallen miko" for ages to come. The youkai tell Inuyasha that he foolishly fell right into their hands. They say that because Kagome heard his voice, she has gained futile hope that will lead her to wish to be with him. Inu tries to yell a warning but the youkai say Kagome no longer can hear him. Outside, Kagome floats by the jewel in the darkness. But now her face is serene. She's thinking of how Inuyasha has always come for her. She's not scared anymore. Inside the jewel, Inuyasha searches frantically for a way out, slashing at any youkai that get in his way. He's headed in the direction of the dead Naraku in the spiderweb. In the darkness outside, the Jewel asks Kagome if she wants to be with Inuyasha. Kagome responds with pointed silence. The Jewel seems a bit frantic as it presses her to answer. In the jewel, Inu beseeches Kagome to not wish for anything. Outside, as though she heard Inu, Kagome tells the Jewel she won't wish for anything. The Jewel has a huge reaction as Kagome tells it she believes in Inuyasha, that he will come to her. Back within the Jewel, Inuyasha sees a point of light in the darkness by Naraku's dead web. There's a ripping sound as the point of light expands into a little , thin slit. In Inu's hand Tessaiga on its own shifts to its black-bladed Meidou mode. Inu gets the sword's meaning - it wants him to cut a Meidou right where the light is. Outside, Kagome stares at the jewel, waiting. Inside, Inu cuts a Meidou. He puts all his desperation, his power, his desire behind the cut. A Meidou opens and Inuyasha dives through it. Inuyasha appears right in front of Kagome. They look at each other, their faces showing their yearning, their joy at seeing each other once more. But is this an illusion? Inuyasha speaks Kagome's name. She puts her left hand on his chest. He's solid, not an illusion. Kagome speaks his name and throws her arms around him, telling him she wanted so much to be with him. He says nothing but pulls her close to him with his left arm. (His right hand still holds Tessaiga.) Their love for each other is plain to see. Inu and Kagome stay in this intimate embrace for a bit, until the Jewel's thumping reaction to this sight reminds them of something they must do. Secure in each other's arms, Kagome and Inuyasha confront the Jewel. Kagome tells the Jewel she is making her wish. She briefly recalls what she was told about the Jewel, that making the right wish would purify the Jewel and cause it to disappear from this world. She admits to herself that if Inuyasha hadn't come for her, she eventually would have succumbed to her fears and wouldn't ever have discovered the right wish. But with Inuyasha by her side now, she has nothing to fear. Kagome pours everything she has, all her will and power into the words of her wish - "Shikon no Tama! Disappear! Forever!" The Jewel trembles. Cracks appear across its surface. It shatters in a huge flare of pure light that annihilates the darkness. Shards fly in all directions but they don't get far before each one dissolves in a little flare of brilliance. The Jewel is no more, no shards, nothing. The pure light is all there is now. Kagome thinks "It's over." The wonderful, glorious light washes over Kagome and Inuyasha as they hold each other close, as close as two people possibly can. NEXT TIME: THE FINAL CHAPTER! (^_*) |

Wow! What a chapter. But no doubt now. Next week will be the end of it all. Chap. 558 will be an epilog set three years after this chapter's events, with
promises of an emotional finale. I hope it is a wonderful and perfect ending that tells what happened to Inu, Kagome, Sesshomaru, Rin, Sango, Miroku, Kohaku,
Shippo, Kouga and Kaede, and maybe also Souta, Grampa, Kagome's mom and Kagome's three modern-era friends Eri, Yuka and Ayumi. I know RT can write
'em right, so I stay hopeful until next week.
As to this week's chapter, there was so much speculation about what the right wish might be, but when we finally got to know what it was, it was so obvious: "Drop Dead! Forever!" Meanwhile, I think it was Kagome's complete faith in Inuyasha that provided the spark of light that showed Tessaiga and Inuyasha where to cut his way out of the Jewel. (Now we know what Kanna meant by the light destroying Naraku and the Jewel.) I think Kagome's super-awesome miko powers certainly worked for the Jewel's destruction but there was no obvious power display by Kagome of a full-throttle power-up. Perhaps that is how Kagome's vast miko powers manifest, through simple little things that turn out to have an extraordinary impact. Like a little spark of light at the right time and place. Or a simple wish that the Jewel disappear forever. The Jewel was a source of power for its owner, so any wish to use that power for any purpose was inherently selfish. The only selfless wish was to wish the source of power would disappear forever. In a weird way, Naraku may have done Inuyasha and Kikyou a favor 50 years before. If Inu and Kikyou had gone ahead with their plan to wish on the Jewel to make Inu human so they could live together as ordinary people, it would have ended in disaster for them both, a disaster perhaps worse than what actually happened to them. In this final battle, Kagome stayed real, a real young girl facing a totally unreal situation. This week, she despaired in her loneliness, lost her fear and took heart when she knew her beloved man was hunting for her, resisted the temptation of an easy way out. Kagome's been Inu's source of strength and this week he was Kagome's source of strength when the time came for her to BLOW THAT DAMNED JEWEL TO KINGDOM COME!!! She admitted to herself that she probably would have succumbed to fear eventually if Inu hadn't found her. All very human and real reactions. And it was good over the years to watch Inuyasha's healing at Kagome's hands from the soul scars he'd collected all his life. When he finally confessed he loved Kagome, it was an awesome moment. But then again, Kagome is worth loving. And so is Inuyasha. The destruction of Naraku and the Jewel did leave a lot of buildup unused. All those Inu sword upgrades that never played a role at the end. All the buildup about the mystic power of Kagome's bow? Not used. Her bow was just a bow. And I do wish Inu and Kagome had kissed in the final panel. (But maybe they will next week, yes, please?) I want to thank all the great people who worked their butts off to bring us the chapters each week. I stand in their debt for all the enjoyment they brought me, getting nothing in return but a few lines of thanks now and then in forum posts. And I'd like to thank our hosts here at Rumic World for providing this forum, and thank the posters for your comments and insights that gave me greater appreciation of the IY story. Inuyasha was the anime and manga that led me to the whole universe of online anime and manga fandom. Other series have come and gone, but Inuyasha seemed eternal. But nothing is really eternal. IY's now complete as a manga. The tale's been told in print, but I do hope to see it animated to completion. Now to wait for next week's finale, the last chapter ever. (^_*) |

Yeah, I guess it's sweet that all those miko powers of hers were used to display her faith in Inuyasha's abilities. Gee, any girl can have faith in her man, though.....perhaps that's the idea; keeping it real. But, there better be some serious passion next week, that's all I'm saying. I want to feel the love, you know?

It's so weird, it dredges up the feelings I had at the end of her other works, that soon their "lives" are going to go one without us. It's
always a little sad.
As for a kiss I don't think we're going to get one. That seems to be the tendancy with her other shonen series at least, never to have a serious "romantic kiss". In some ways I'm surprised by how easy it was to destroy Naraku and the Jewel, in hindsight Moryomaru seems to have been the most brutal physical battle. Takahashi wound up doing a lot of stuff with the finale that I wasn't expected (especially concerning the Jewel), so I've been pleasantly surprised. I think it was probably for the best that Naraku didn't reawaken inside the jewel. It made him seem more vulnurable and underscored the reality that there, inside the Jewel, he would have been just another creature and nothing special. |

Amazing chapter. I can't describe how I feel about this great series coming to an end, so I'm not going to try. Everyone's obsessed with kisses and weddings. That's just not the way Takahashi does things. I think Inuyasha and Kagome's embrace in this chapter was as meaningful or even more than a kiss would have been. Don't be constrained by your traditional notions of what romance should be, people! I see Inuyasha still has that subjugation necklace on. I'm hoping Kagome will finally take that thing off him in the final chapter. Oh, and I just realized that the destruction of the jewel means that Inuyasha will definitely stay as a hanyou. That's great. It has long been obvious that he does not want to be a full youkai anymore, but there was always a chance he might ultimately become human. I'm glad that Inuyasha will stay Inuyasha. And that reminds me that Kikyou must have been wrong all those years ago when she thought that Inuyasha using the jewel to become human would purify the jewel. In a way, it's almost good that Naraku interfered. Kikyou and Inuyasha's desire to be with each other would not have been truly fulfilled by the jewel, and if Kikyou had cast aside her powers then the jewel would be left unguarded to just cause more calamity. Funny how things went badly in just the right way.

A little anticlimatic, but interesting that the big bad guy, Naraku, was surprisingly easy to defeat, simply because everyone worked together as a team. The
jewel was destroyed because Kagome is a smart cookie and saw through its games. I also think the jewel seriously underestimated the bond between Kagome and
Inuyasha. Silly jewel. In the end, I think it was Kagome's super-miko powers that opened that portal (or whatever it was) for Inuyasha to escape the jewel
and get to her.
I DO want to see at least a kiss though. How many times did we see Inuyasha and Kikyo kiss? (no really, I can't recall if it was just in the anime or if they kissed in the manga too). I think it would make a nice closing panel, a big colour picture of them locked in a kiss (with Kagome wearing something other than that sailor uniform, I just can't wrap my head around how durable that uniform was!) |

I agree that since this is shonen, it's going to be geared towards boys, so kisses and such wouldn't traditionally be a large part, or even a small part, of the series. However, this shonen is all about relationships, especially those surrounding Inuyasha. His development as a compassionate, loving person is what really drove the storyline equal to, if not more than, the fight against Naraku/the Shikon no Tama. Inuyasha has has a few passionate kisses with Kikyo, most notably at the time of her passing; Kagome has certainly earned at least one... So while I'm not putting all my money on a big kiss or weddings, I wouldn't rule it out either. I agree, though, the removal of the subjugation necklace would be a hugely significant act on Kagome's part and is more likely to happen than a kiss in the final chapter. It was put on him in the beginning as a sign of mistrust, it's removal would be a reversal of that and a sure sign of the strength of their relationship, bring the story full-circle. You know, I really wouldn't have minded if she had removed it a long time ago. Actually, since Kaede put it on him, is she the only one who can remove it, or can Kagome do that as well since her's is the voice which commands it?Hooray wrote:I agree.
