Anyway, I was wondering what some of your guys memories of Inuyasha were? Maybe a particularly fun night when you bought a manga, or read one of the books on vacation... I enjoyed reading your reminisces. I'd also like to toot the site's horn once more and direct any reader to the Animerica2 article found in the Rumiko Takahashi profile. The magazine interviewed Takahashi shortly after she had begun work on the series and its interesting to reflect that she really had no true idea where the story was going to go. Not a bad effort for 12 years of improvising!! Inu Yasha represented the first time I chose a manga series to read as opposed to being referred to series A or series B. I was impressed so deeply with Ranma that I just had to give this goofy author another try. I haven't been disappointed. It was the first manga series to bring a tear to my eye. The little girl who died in the apartment fire whose spirit wanted to make up with her mother, had me bawling. My kids were very young when I read that story. I think my daughter was still a baby! (Turns 11 next month) Lastly, I have many more potential memories because I have not read beyond the english releases. I'm content to pick them up as they come out, but wish they'd go bi-monthly. This was well before the Inuyasha anime was dubbed and aired on Cartoon Network. There were several posters there who were obsessed with the Inuyasha anime (I assume they were watching fansubs). One of them was an admin who always had an avatar of Inuyasha, until the anime reached the Mt. Hakurei arc at which point he became obsessed with Bankotsu instead. I posted on that messageboard more than I ever have on any other. I made a lot of good friends there too. Unfortunately it no longer exists, and I lost contact with most of my friends there. But still, every time I read the Inuyasha manga or watch the anime I'm reminded of that messageboard and I am able to fondly remember the people I used to know. In some ways I associate Inuyasha with my graduation from college and transition to the "real world." I started following the Japanese chapters of the series and participating in the weekly chapter discussions at this forum in my Senior year, and continued to do so after I graduated and began looking for work. It was a difficult time then, and I've had to go for months at a time without a decent job or even a job at all. I was pretty depressed during my periods of unemployment, but new chapters of Inuyasha always gave me something to look forward to every week.

The first ep I saw was the first part of the Water God arc. I had seen some anime movies before, but this was the first TV series I really got into. That led to me collecting the Viz comics, Viz English manga, Viz Inuyasha DVD collection, several figures, Tshirts, Japanese tankoubon series and even one real Shonen Sunday. I got interested in learning Japanese and visiting Japan - still working on that! I haven't posted too much here but have really liked reading posts and lurking through the years. I spent 6 weeks in a hospital in Spring 2004 and remember making my husband find a fan sub of the double ep about Inuyasha's past with Kikyou for me. I know that was evil, but it helped me recover !

I'd been following the Inuyasha premieres on Adult Swim right up to Ep. 36 where Kouga kidnaps Kagome. This was in a February. I went away that week on a business trip and came back expecting watch Ep. 37, "The Man Who Loved Kagome.". But they didn't run it, instead they reset to the first episode. I was upset. Furious. Distressed. In fact, I can't ever recall being so upset at a TV schedule change. I wanted, no, needed to find out what happened and whether there'd ever be any more Inuyasha. It occurred to me that maybe there'd be something on the Internet about this that would tell me what happened. Up to that point, I'd been using the Internet just for business purposes and this was the first time I thought of it for personal interests. I ultimately found out what happened but in the process discovered Rumic World and other fansites and prosites devoted to anime and manga. (^_*)

Still a n00b by standards given that the series has been going on for 12 years, but when I get into something, it doesn't take me long to catch up, and the same happened with Inuyasha... Prior to becoming an Inu fan, I actually hated anime/manga as a whole. Everything I had seen was too out there for me and my tastes. To give an idea of my tastes, I'm a fan of James Bond, Miami Vice, 80's... ANYTHING, TV broadcasting, and most of all: game shows........... However, bored one night, I turned on Inu on CN when I used to watch Family Guy and Futurama regularly, and watching it, it didn't seem too out there it was an early episode, don't remember which one, unlike all other Japanese animation I had seen. Watching another ep they were still airing in one hour nightly blocks at the time, again, it didn't strike me as "out there." A few days later had "Kagome's Voice and Kikyo's Kiss" shown, one of the most emotional shows of the run, IMHO, and this former anime denouncer was forced to finally admit to himself he was now a fan of an anime... It helped the show was action oriented, provided a bit of historical context I love world history, and was at times, painfully funny. If a show is funny, it triples the chances of me liking it... So then I went hunting online, found Rumic World about this time last year, and I decided after I saw all the episodes and movies, I'd work from there reading the chapter summaries to catch up. Inuyasha has been a turning point of sorts, it came along at a horrible point in my college career this former straight A student was lagging and tiring, becoming a C student, and I credit the story with sorta reinvigorating my creative/imaginative self, and giving me some sort of inspiration or energy to make it to the end. Inuyasha ended exactly one month to the day after I graduated from college with a B.S. in Physics, with Honors. I guess I owe Inu or Takahashi some of the tuition money I would've had to pay the school if I wasn't an Honors student... Also thanks to Inu, I became a fan of other anime/manga. I'm now a fan of Ruruoni Kenshin ended, Fullmetal Alchemist also ended, and Bleach. Inu was the stepping stone to this newfound fandom of mine. Without a doubt though, Inu was, by far, my favorite of the group, and the one I kept up with most religously. However, I still will say, I've been a lot less closed-minded and have tried watching some of those other anime, online and elsewhere, and some ARE STILL wayyyyy too weird for me. Old habits die hard, I guess... Now, I'd just like to know one thing... WHY IS IT, whenever I become a fan of a story or something, either the story has already been completely written or has ended, or right after I become a fan, IT ENDS SOON AFTER! Only two exceptions that I have to this, IN MY LIFE: 007 and Bleach... THIS IS STARTING TO GET DEPRESSING! Thus, when I heard about Inu's last chapter being published this week, I let out a day's worth of sighs. I added another entry to my "I musta killed it list." Hopefully the rest of the story will be animated and I can take it off for a little while...

Perverted Monk Posts: 188 (06/19/08 09:58 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	You know, I've actually avoided this topic for a little while because remembering how long I've been reading Inuyasha just makes the thought of going on without it that much more painful and poignant. I'm 29 now...yeah, almost at the big 3-0, so I've been reading Inu since I was a junior in High school. GAH. Everything Inuyasha and I have been through! I can so totally relate to our webmaster's experiences. When I was younger, manga was even less known in the USA than it is now. When I was in high school, I was the only weirdo in my class who brought manga to school. I went to a private school - only 19 people in my graduating class, so no manga club or anything like that. It was almost like me and Inu against the world. I could almost relate to teh way he was alone in the world when he met Kikyo - almost. Well, I don't want to go into depth and have a 10 page post, but I'll just say I'm going to miss Inuyasha and all my 'friends' from the sengoku jidai! Thankfully, I now have otaku friends, and boyfriend. I'm no longer alone in the world, so to speak, but I have friends who like me for who I am and who truly understand me. I guess Inuyasha and i have the same ending for our stories in a sense: our stories aren't over, they just have a new, happy beginning! --that was a little deeper, and sappier, than I meant it to be - I got a little carried away!

Thanks! Yeah, I've had otaku friends for years now, but everyone on this board is so fun and knowledgable, I love being able to ask questions and receive informed opinions and answers. I'm the only one of my friends with an obsession with Takahashi-sensei, so I really appreciate this outlet for my obsession, I only wish I'd found it sooner! :P I just came on at the end of Inuyasha, so I feel like I missed so much....
