Well, this'll be an American version, produced by 20th Century Fox and with Justin Chatwin (never heard of him, but it doesn't sound like a Japanese or
even Asian name) as Goku.
I wonder what the Japanese will think of this. Do you think they'd be pleased or nauseated? Speaking of which, how did Speed Racer do over there? |

I too have mixed feelings it's not something simple like Speed Racer it has a uniqueness about it like the hairstyles, the locations, the Namek ppl, etc.
I'm afraid they'll throw in some trashy american teenage humor or some other cruddy satire like they did with Transformers. It's almost like
there's no gray area, they're either going to ruin it big time, or it will be half decent but not magnificent. I hope I'm wrong...we'll see,
along w/ the plans Weta has for Evangelion, too. Not to mention Alita and god forbid Sailor Moon, too.
"Miss Shinobu won't you have some tea with me?"

i really don't know if it is good or not but i hope it is. the cgi must be really good and convincing though which i think will be very hard. and justin
chatwin played in the war of the worlds.

Speedracer hasn't even come out over here yet. Indiana Jones just came out last weekend, and I actually saw a preview for Speedracer before it!
Indy's the only movie I've seen in Japan so far. $18 for just my ticket!
I don't really know anything about Dragonball, I never got into the series because I didn't like the way the characters looked. The stills I've seen from this new live action movie were definitely interesting. haha There was a teaser for this movie before Indy started, but they didn't show anything but some giant CGI Dragonballs. There was a family behind me that started chittering kind of excitedly (nervously? haha) after they saw it. |

The actor looks too old for Goku and they think Western people playing the show is weird. The story is based on the fight bitween Goku and Vegeta, but two hours is too short to adapt the original manga story into a live action film. So, they expect that the film company will make an original story for the film, but many fans don't like it. This is what the article says and is not my opinion.

I'm worried that its going to be really, really bad. I like Dragonball, but I have no idea how you can make a live action movie about it. Plus its chock
full of white people who aren't martial artists. That'd be like casting ME as Goku....

true i'm afraid that it will be bad too but i hope it isn't. bty james marsters is playing piccolo.I'm afraid that James Marsters as Piccolo may be like Jim Carey as the Grinch - cheesy, but in a bad way. Yeah - the whole thing just sounds like a big wheel o' cheese - something which has little chance of doing justice to the anime. It has a really small chance of rising above the tag of 'corny', but not much of one. Why can't they make a major motion picture from an anime which is a little more realistic - like MI or an OPG which is closer to the manga than the dorama, just as an example. |

idk even though it may suck all the major fans of the franchise will go to see it anyway.

idk even though it may suck all the major fans of the franchise will go to see it anyway.I don't doubt that in the least. Even if they see previews which aren't that great, they'll still probably wait outside theatres for tickets. Fans are like that. If they made a Ranma live action movie, it would probably be corny, but yeah, I'd definitely go see it. |

The new Speed Racer movie turned out to be utterly bad ass, so you never know. It could work.

Yeah, if you get someone who really likes Dragon Ball instead of someone who's just looking to squeeze a few bucks out of the franchise, than sure it has a
chance. Speed Racer stuck pretty close to the original story so I think that had a big impact on its success.

Live Action Dragonball, hmmm.... honestly, I think Dragonball isn't the type of anime i'd turn into a live action movie.
