MANGA CHAP. 514 CRISIS

OUR STORY: Chapter opens with Sesshomaru and his enemy, the Naraku/jewel detachment, facing off for another round of battle. The enemy strikes out with a sickle-tipped extensible arm but just barely misses Sesshomaru. Sessho closes in fast and strikes his enemy right in the midsection. Jaken cheers for his master, thinking Sesshomaru struck a mortal blow. He jeers that the enemy will spend eternity in hell regretting that he ever called Sesshomaru weak. But Kohaku, in the sky astride Ah-Un with Rin, notices something odd Sesshomarus strike should have pierced his enemy through, but instead it looks like the enemy is drawing Sesshomaru close in and trying to hold him in place by his arm. The enemy transforms the ends of his arms into long blades. Hes about to skewer Sesshomaru in a fatal embrace of blades, but Sesshomaru breaks free at the last instant and his enemys blade hands embrace on nothing but air.

Sesshomaru didnt escape unscathed, though. His enemy burned his arm badly. Jaken fears the burns mean the enemy has poison stronger than Sesshomarus own. The enemy strikes at Sesshomaru again, this time taking a chunk out of Sesshomarus fluffy. Kohaku from above realizes the enemy is going after Sesshomarus arm and calls out a warning. Jaken yells for Sesshomaru to retreat because he cant fight if he loses his remaining arm. Kohaku flings down his chain-sickle weapon and hits the enemy in the forehead. Sesshomaru curses Kohaku for a fool as their enemy reaches up with sharp-tipped tentacles to get Kohaku.

Kohaku tells Rin to sit tight as he leaps off Ah-Uns back and dives down to fight alongside Sesshomaru. Hes thinking that this enemy is a Naraku detachment so wont be able to touch his Kikyou-purified jewel shard. Kohaku is wrong. The enemy catches Kohaku in his tentacles and one tip touches the shard. Much to Kohakus surprise, the enemys touch instaqntly taints his jewel shard. Kohaku is helpless. Sesshomaru leaps up to try and rescue Kohaku but just as hes about to grab the boy, the enemy shoots out three bony tentacle tips that impale Sesshomarus arm. Sesshomaru is caught! He cant get away without losing his arm. The enemy tells Sesshomaru its all over and reaches up his other tentacle/arm to deliver the killing strike.

Theres a loud curse. A sword flashes through the air and the enemys tentacles are severed. Its Inuyasha with Tessaiga, coming to Sesshomarus aid! Sesshomaru and Kohaku fall to the ground. Both are badly hurt. Kohaku is unconscious. Kagome and her friends rush to their aid as Inuyasha defends them, warily watching for the enemys next move. Sesshomaru staggers to his feet. His arm is a mess. It hangs at his side. Jaken tries to offer sympathy. Sesshos damaged fluffy droops over his shoulder. Shippo notes Sesshomaru got thoroughly thrashed. Miroku says thats because he handed his deadly Meidou hell gate sword attack over to Inuyasha.

Sango tries to sit up her brother as Kagome checks him over. She sees that his shard has been tainted. Kagome moves to purify it but senses something is very wrong here. How could a Naraku detachment taint the shard and not be destroyed? The enemy turns his head and stares at Kagome. Her eyes lock onto his; she feels all her strength being drawn away. Kagomes eyes go blank and she keels over, out cold, as Sango and Inuyasha call her name. THE END (^_*)

Chapter 515 - Karimono no Karada (The Borrowed Body)

Watched by a mystery entity that the Shikon Jewel produced, Kagome loses consciousness. What is the connection between her and the entity?


The title "The Borrowed Body" does indicate the Naraku detachment is only a temporary host for the jewel's dark will, to accomplish its objective -- possess Kagome. It stunned Kagome with a single look.

In effect the jewel's dark side has a will of its own, is on Naraku's side, and could be seeking to possess Kagome so it can misuse her powers to counter the purity point left in the jewel by Kikyou. In short, it may want to pervert good into the service of evil to extinguish the light that is the key to Naraku's ultimate defeat.

We saw with Hitomi-ko how Naraku perverted a good miko's powers to serve his evil ends, so we know such things are possible. Kagome managed to thwart Naraku that time, but who is powerful enough to thwart Kagome if she is possessed by the evil side of the jewel? Midoriko?

Maybe the "borrowing" of the title will be Midoriko borrowing Kagome's body, bringing the battle within the jewel back to the outer world. With the evil side of the jewel running rampant, its time Midoriko intervened for the good guys. (^_*)

MANGA CHAP. 515 THE BORROWED BODY

OUR STORY: Chapter opens with a view of Kagome lying on the ground, motionless. Shes not unconscious, though. She is trying to move her body but it doesnt respond. Shes thinking her paralysis may be the work of the enemy entity whod stunned her with a single look. Meanwhile, Sango and Miroku attempt to revive Kagome as a furious Inuyasha demands to know what the enemy did to her. While this is going on, Rin has gone to Kohaku and tries to help him.

Miroku looks over at the enemy and wonders how, if it is another Naraku detachment, the enemy was able to taint Kohakus Kikyou-purified shard without being destroyed. Sesshomaru interrupts Mirokus thoughts, telling him and Sango to take Kohaku and leave the area. He says they are in the way. Inuyasha looks over at Sesshomarus mauled arm and says Sessho, too, should get away because this is no place for an injured person. Jaken berates Inuyasha, saying Sesshos injuries are Inus fault because he took away Sesshos Meidou attack, leaving Sessho without an offensive weapon. Inu yells for Jaken to shut up, that he knows this. Inu thinks that if Sesshomaru had had
a weapon, he wouldnt have been so badly wounded.

The verbal exchange between Inuyasha and Jaken infuriates Sesshomaru. His eyes blaze red with his fury. He says he wont accept pity from a despicable hanyou. Sessho stretches out his arm; theres a flare of energy and Sesshos wounds heal in seconds. Jaken is amazed and delighted by Sesshomarus demonstration of his pure fighting spirit. Sesshomaru lunges toward the enemy once more, but the enemy isnt impressed and asks if Sessho wants his arm eaten again.

As Sesshomaru lunges forward, he transforms into his full dog-youkai form, and bites off the enemys head with a single snap of his huge dog jaws. Jaken cheers at what looks like a fast victory for Sesshomaru. But he is wrong. The headless body stands and from its neck a cloud of toxic shouki pours out. Inuyasha yells for Miroku and Sango to get Kagome away. Miroku has Kohaku and Rin on Ah-Un and Sango slings Kagome across Kilalas back and Shippo yells that theyve got her. As the mounts claw for altitude and safety, Rin says they left Jaken behind, but Miroku says hell probably be alright.

The body of the enemy shoots tentacles out from its neck that try to grab Kohaku, but Inuyasha severs them with his Tessaiga. Inuyasha and Miroku both think this beings fighting style and nature are similar to Naraku, even to the point of being able to fight while decapitated, but there are differences. Miroku asks how Kagome is doing but Sango says theres no change. They agree that Kagomes condition is the result of something the enemy did to her. Miroku recalls what Hitomi-ko and Kaede said about Kagomes powers being sealed, likely by something evil originating from the Shikon Jewel.

Back at the battleground, the enemys head in Sesshomarus jaws starts laughing, and says breaking up his body wont stop him because its merely been borrowed. Inuyasha asks if this means hes not one of Narakus detachments. The enemy scornfully says they shouldnt compare him to that hanyou Naraku. As Inuyasha and the enemys head converse, the enemys body tries to catch Inu inits tentacles. He evades and fires back with a Kongoushouha (diamond spear barrage). But the enemys headless body isnt there to be hit. Its dodged aside to ensnare dog-form Sesshomaru in its tentacles. The head within Sesshos jaws laughs and asks rhetorically if it should finish them off one at a time. Inuyasha demands to know who or what the enemy is. The enemys head grows its own tentacles, pries Sesshomarus jaws apart and makes an escape to rejoin the body. As the head climbs down, the enemy names himself. He is Magatsuhi (the corrupt one).
