Okay, so I've been away from Maison Ikkoku for ages. I own DVD sets 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6, but never got around to getting 4, 7, or 8. Now I'm finding
that you can't order set 8 from viz.com or rightstuf.com anymore. Is there ANY way to get the last set on DVD or am I out of luck?

You're in luck. Hurry! | ||

DrewMG, you're in luck. I see at Discount Anime, there is a sale on Maison Ikkoku box sets. Set 4, 7 and 8 are included. I saw that here. But be warned, they sometimes go out of stock and
don't report it until later, so get it while it's hot.
It really surprises me if indeed it is the case that some of MI is already going out of print. What would the prospects be to get a second printing? Does anyone know?

Wow. That is weird that they've gone out of print. Maybe Viz will do the slimpacks like they did with Ranma.

A real yawner, let's keep it on the shelf and never let anyone see it. Gone With the Wind? The guy has too big of ears. Never sell. Ditch it! Maison Ikkoku is that classic Bordeaux that only gets sweeter with age. After a company has already put in the time and investment to produce and dub this anime, why would they let it whither on the vine? I just don't get it. *Shakes head* Something's just not right. If anything, one ought to think Viz could at least regard it as a signature/prestige piece of work, one that ought to be on the shelf for the sake of anime, for the sake of art itself. Well, I got my copies. I'll hang on to those and cherish them. Really, DrewMG, I hope you got lucky and got through on that sale cause it looks like it may be a long night for Maison Ikkoku ahead.

Totally off-topic, but...
Gone With the Wind? The guy has too big of ears. Never sell. Ditch it!HA!...although sadly some Powers-That-Be actually WERE reluctant to give Clark Gable leading-man roles because of his ears. Morons. So honey...

HA!...although sadly some Powers-That-Be actually WERE reluctant to give Clark Gable leading-man roles because of his ears. Morons. That's not surprising. And it just goes to show the type of decision sometimes made. And revenge to that idea is the monolithic status that film has
achieved over the years. I chose that film as an example on purpose. It's one of my wife's favorite movies, and Clark Gable is one of my wife's
favorite actors ever. There is something in that movie that has captured the imagination of a nation ever since, some film critics be damned. And there's
something in Gable's performance that Americans have come to appreciate. Maison Ikkoku is the human story that is a diamond in the rough. It's a
story that doesn't grow old. Although other anime has been made that has higher production values, is newer, etc, most anime just doesn't compare to
it. Like Gone With the Wind, its impact has not diminished with time. 22 years later, we're still talking about it. Will we be talking about it in
another 20 years? I really don't see why we shouldn't.

Since I forgot to actually mention Maison Ikkoku...

I've noticed that I haven't been seeing much of the MI manga at bookstores like Barnes and Nobles recently, even though the manga section of the store has exponentially increased. To the best of my knowledge, you can still buy them online, but the stores themselves don't seem bothered to stock them. It kind of sucks - it's not getting the exposure that some of these newer, flashier series are getting. In my experience, if a series is good enough to still be read and enjoyed 10-15 years after it was first released, then it deserves to KEEP getting exposure. I wonder if the newer series that are currently getting the big displays in stores will age the same way MI has... So honey...
