Not sure if this has been covered before, but If Ataru hadn't said anything during Oni tag and had just grabbed her horns, and the Invaders retreated, do
you think Lum would have gone home bitter at Ataru about how he won? Maybe she would come to earth and pester him just to annoy him for that. According to the
manga she was sore at him for a day or so when he kept her bra top (I mean I would too). In the anime when Ataru gulped and muttered "I'm doing this
for marriage" do you think also that maybe Lum thought he was struggling to win so he can marry specifically her? Or was she just trying to get out of
marrying Rei, because she wasn't deeply in love with Ataru just yet?

Well, initially the series wasn't going to follow his relationship with Lum, she was only going to be a character that introduced the series, so I think
even though now it seems difficult to imagine Urusei Yatsura without her, the story certainly could have gone in that direction.
Like you said, Lum was definetely looking to start over it seems to me. Getting away from Rei, and her Dad too probably. It seems to me Lum was probably ready for a little independance. |

It seems Takahashi succeeded with her concept of making the 'alien girl' be a recurring character when she got to 'Ranma 1/2.' It seemed to me when reading Ranma that Shampoo ended up doing what Takahashi had originally intended for Lum in the first place. Though I wonder how Takahashi would have structured the series if Shinobu had stayed on as the main female character. I never got the idea that Lum was tiring of being around her parents, but I could definitely see being rid of Rei. Of course when it comes to her parents, we don't know just what homelife was like. Still, I imagined that her being a the Princess of Planet Oni she was not completely a sheltered individual. |

Yeah, it was a bit strange that Lum just up and agreed to marry Ataru after she had a bad relationship with Rei, I mean, she should have learned her lesson and attempted to get to know him first before diving in head first. As to the original question...well, I guess she may have been bitter and perhaps shock him to get her bra back, but I don't think she'd continue to visit him. I think he would have married Shinobu and done many not-manga-worthy uninteresting things with the rest of his life. Needless to say, I think Lum made his life more interesting. |

if Ataru didn't propose, well I think she would stay. I mean she already knew the language. I think there was a conversation before the first episode. some thing like. lum: daady can I go to earth? Mr. I: sure honey well go to war Sunday. lum: but dad!!! Mr. I: Ok tomorrow lum: but I don't want you to invade it! Mr. I: how will I know my daughter is ok if I don't own the dam place.

hahah love it. Rei is pretty dull and self centered on food so since she had been fated to marry him I guess choosing someone with a bigger but more annoying
vocabulary would beat having to cook constantly.
