I just put it up on the site. Shogakukan is re-releasing Urusei Yatsura in a new shinsouban format. If it's anything like the Ranma release from three years ago, it will match the number of tankouban (34), and have new covers, but not new cover artwork (in other works they'll recycle some of her old art).

That's really great. Just in time, as I've been wanting to collect the Japanese release of the series.
The widebans aren't too easy to find, and to be honest I don't really want the bunkobans. |

You may want to consider the wideban versions as well. They're quite nice looking, and are still rather easy to find.

Do you know of an online site that has them? I've not been able to locate them in person at any Japanese bookstores, and most of my normal ordering spots like amazon.jp and sasuga only have the Bunkobans.
I'd prefer to get the Wideban release to be totally honest, because it seems like it would be cheaper. |

We used to use Nikaku Animart a lot for import goods. I think they have the widebans.

Whoops, I missed where you said you were having trouble finding the widebans. Yeah, they are getting a little difficult to find now that I'm looking, at least on non-Japanese sites. Nikaku has some of the tankoban, but none of the wideban.
Here's one guy that has a few for sale pretty cheap. Not a whole set though. www.rahul.net/arromdee/sale.html |

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the shinsouban format? I'm only familiar with tankouban and wideban.

If they're anything like the Ranma shinsouban, then they're exactly like the tankouban but with different covers. Same size, same chapters, everything.

Re: Urusei Yatsura Shinsouban

When Ranma was first released in Shonen Sunday the order the chapters was presented in tankouban and then shinsouban were all the same.
But Urusei Yatsura's chapter order has changed with the shonen sunday release, tankouban and wideban all having different sequences for the order of the chapters. My question is this has the shinsouban gone back to the tankouban chapter order or kept the wideban order but broken down over 34 books? |

Yes, I believe they are going back to the tankobon chapter format with 34 volumes released. They've published the first two covers, and they look basically the same as the Ranma shinsobons (a black and white line drawing slightly colorized).

My Lumx34 | ||

For those that don't check the news section on Rumic World, we just announced that each new shinsouban will have something called My Lumx34. This is a drawing of Lum included in each book by a different mangaka. Here's the list so far:
Vol. 1 - Rumiko Takahashi (new drawing) Vol. 2 - Mitsuru Adachi (Touch, H2, Cross Game) Vol. 3 - Mine Yoshizaki (Sgt. Frog) Vol. 4. - Eiji Nonaka (Cromartie High School) I would LOVE to see these images, unfortunately I just can't justify rebuying these books yet again... |

Wow! Nice! Thanks for sharing! Where'd you find them?
Quote: I'm sure she will, since she's an avowed Takahashi fan. I'd like to see Hiroya Oku (Gantz, Hen) since he's also a Takahashi fan. Naoki Urasawa would be good too. Nice to see that they're not just sticking with Shogakukan artists though. |

Yoiko- I found the scans on a Chinese Rumiko forum.
I'm really glad they are not just sticking with Shogakukan artists as well! |

Cool, if you come across any others please let us know. Those are a nice find! They look like they might have been in color, but depending on where they were printed in the book, they may have been grayscaled later I guess.

Re: My Lumx34 | ||

Yoiko, I really wish they'd kept them color too. It seems kind of a waste to have them do color images just to print them in black and white. It's not even like the chapter covers where they're printed black and white in the tankouban, but at least were in color in the original publication.
Here's the next two: This one is my favorite so far. It is just so adorable. Mine Yoshizaki: ![]() and- so.much.crack. Eiji Nonoka: ![]() |

Seeing Lum drawn by different artists is so awesome. And getting to see Rumiko draw Lum after all these years is so cool. It's neat to see how her art has evolved.
I'm really crossing my fingers for one by Arakawa Hiromu and Gosho Aoyama. An Eiichiro Oda one would be interesting as well XD |

Those are great, thanks for sharing them again! I like how they included Sgt. Frog and Mechazawa.

Re: Urusei Yatsura Shinsouban

I haven't seen Haro around the board lately, so I tried to find them myself. I was able to discover that the two artists this month are Sensha Yoshida (a four panel gag manga artist, who Takahashi once did a strip for), and Takashi Shiina, who is the artist of Ghost Sweeper Mikami (his wife was one of Takahashi's assistants).
Anyway, I wasn't able to find the images unfortunately. Haro said they were on a Chinese Rumic forum, and I searched through the ones I know about in vain. I also used the watermark on one of the scans that indicated it was done by someone named "kunlunsushi". I found his image postings on other boards, and another profile of his named "klsushi" but not the Shinsouban illustrations. If there are any better data-miners here, see if you can use those clues to track them down. I know we'd all like to see them. |

Sorry I've been away! Here's the My Lumx34 from volumes five & six.
Sensha Yoshida: ![]() Takashi Shiina: ![]() I love it! Do you want a link to the forum? I'll give you one if you private message me for it. I'm not trying to hog the source (of course), I just know she's had some trouble with scan theivery in the IY fandom. |
