spoilers, of course

I just watched this last night and there's one part I can't seem to figure out(and I watched through it 3 times), so I was wondering if anyone could help

The part with the string at the end, where Lum follows it to Ataru, I can't figure out whats up with it (I know the string connects to your destined match, blah blah). What I can't figure out is whether ataru is trying to unravel the string, or if he has a MESS of strings attached to him... (the other possibility, which I can't see him getting ashamed over would be winding it up to follow it back... so I discounted that). Or maybe I'm just reading this scene wrong entirely and its something else.

My feeling leans toward multiple strings, since I can't see him trying to separate from Lum.

Wow! I thought that I should have a answer for you, but it's been so long since I've seen it. What was the title of that movie? I'll have to pull it out and rewatch it, a good excuse for targetting which anime to watch.

If I recall, I think that the scene represents an erasing of all doubt of where the destined red string leads to since it is so overwhelmingly in favor of Ataru that he is actually tangled up in it.

But I could be dreaming of making to up....I have to see it again to make sure.

I suppose that could be the reason, but I wouldn't think lum would be THAT upset that he was hiding that though. I could be wrong certainly... hmmm... maybe its because he looked so upset about it himself...

Is now the time to preorder the movie boxsets? I thought they were still on the series... I may have to pre-order then. It wouldn't be worth it to order the tv part necessarily, since I'm already 3 behind apparently (grr...)

I was actually going to wait until they did a dub of it all, but it doesn't look like that will happen, so I may as well buy the movies at least now and hope they re-release the box sets eventually.

yes, I know I'm a heathen for liking dubs, but its very hard to put anime on for background while grading papers when you have to read the movie too... that's also why I've started buying anime now that I have a dvd - can watch whatever version I want.

Nothing wrong with enjoying a good dub!

Urusei Yatsura actually was dubbed once upon a time, but they stopped pretty early into it (like after only 3 or so tapes I think). I enjoy the dub of the 2nd movie quite a bit too.

I don't think they even got that far - I think they only did one tape...
maybe they should lease it out to viz or something :)

Oooh Ooooh call on me!

I saw the movie for the first time this summer, so it's still rather fresh in my mind: In the scene with the red strings, Ataru's afraid and hiding his hand from Lum because he has a whole mess of red strings tied around his fingers on that hand. If you look closely, they're all seperate strings, probably leading to all the girls he knows around Tomobiki and elsewhere. It kind of illustrates what he said about being in love with Lum, but also with all the other girls, at the end of Beautiful Dreamer, and it's a pretty good excuse for Lum to shock him.

Also, I agree with you on the dubs. It's especially fun to hear a new take on characters you like. Usually I'm dissapointed with dubs, but when they're well done, it's like watching the show again for the first time.

I always understood lums reason for shocking ataru. BUt how come the string connected to lums pinky is connected to only one of ataru's hand, and the other strings are on the other hand. Would it mean taht lum is his true love? Cause the whole story with the strings is taht your true love will be connected by a red string taht is on each persons pinkys. Lums and ataru were both connected by their pinkys.

They do seem to represent all the girls he loves, Lum gets the most important spot of course. As for the other girls he is connected to well...[pesonal opinion here]the Anime emphisises their relationship more than Takahashi ever did in her manga and so here the director seems to try to justify Ataru's actions and avoidence of Lum almost a little too hard. To say he loves all girls is one thing, the True love red string is a bit much.[P. O. end]

i felt Movie 3 had a good story and an even better soundtrack. It was the second film i saw after "Beautiful Dreamer"(the dub, which i soon discarded for the subtitled version). The music was sung in english and that was quite strange to my ears. I swear, if they would have released those songs over here, they would have been top 5 hit singles.

That suit that Lum wears to the opening of the Tomobiki Marchenland is really cool (who else but Lum could have the fashion sense to wear orange shoes?).

The ending was something though, and by that I mean what usually happens in a crazy universe:

Agodoinchi! Supashimengi! (The 8 mushrooms are here!) BOOM!!
