I'm about to add them to the site, but since I saw that some people here were curious about the Japanese covers I thought I'd share some nice big scans
here too. Gotta get my order in to Sasuga so I can scan the rest of the new art. The back covers of both feature Rokumon playing around the weather hutch
doing different things. Enjoy!

They do seem a bit plain to be in terms of backgrounds, but I love the covers regardless =3 Hope VIZ keeps the art.
Grr... I tried to get Shonen Sunday 46 from the Kinokuniya on the Avenue of the Americas ((NY)) and they were sold out -__- The lady kept saying something about the 'october 28th week issue', which I have no idea WHY she was talking about two weeks into the future... GRRR. ANY SS issue with Rinne on the cover would've sufficed... But the only issues they had had NARUTO on them >____o That is NOT a plus in my book. |

Is it just me or is Takahashi getting really lazy with her watercolor techniques? Look at the dark, brushed ink lines in Sakura's hair, not blended well.
Either she's going for a different style or she's just trying to crank them out as fast as possible. Then again I've been through a whole
'nother thread about this a while ago ^_^; On the other side, she has a lot more detail to the hair in general. Ranma, UY, and Maison Ikkoku characters
always had solid silhouetted hair w/ no detail.

I really HOPE VIZ will use these covers and that the one they have up is a place holder!

I like her more detailed style with the hair, actually. I do think Sakura's hair looks a little too... green, in the first one....

Does anybody want a scan of the English cover posted for comparison? I have a 150dpi-scan JPEG that's 272kB; anything better than that and it'll crowd
the dinky little 5MB personal Webspace my ISP gives me. . . .

The thing that bothers me about the Japanese tankobon's isn't the art, but rather the LACK of art. For the past 30 years with precious few exceptions,
everytime Takahashi has released a tankobon she has created five brand new pieces of art for it...
1. The cover. 2. A face on the spine of the book. 3. An interior color illustration. 4. An interior black and white illustration before the table of contents. 5. A color illustration on the back cover of the book. Both KnR volume 1 and 2 only have TWO new illustrations. The front and back covers. The interior color images for both are recycled color page images, and the face on the spine is Rokumon's head from the back cover, while the interior black and white illustration is from a random panel within the book. I'm hoping that this is just a matter of Takahashi having a lot on her plate right now launching the series, doing numerous color art for these early chapters and prepping two tankobon for release, but perhaps its going to be a continuing trend to lighten her workload. |

VIZ is at least somewhat keeping the japanese cover for volume 2! All they did was chang the color of the stripes in on the cover, YAY!
