Sadistic Immortal Little Boy Posts: 729 (07/27/06 11:13 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Lum and Ran make cameo appearances in Maison Ikkoku episode 15, "The Play's the Thing, Not the Playing Around". They are both standing in the planetarium pointing to the stars as Kyoko wanders through it. It's the time when Kyoko visits Yusaku at his college and watches him and then joins him in a performance of his play. I wonder if any Maison Ikkoku characters ever made cameo appearances in Ranma 1/2 that anyone knows about? When I first watched Ranma 1/2, I had not known of Maison Ikkoku. So I would not have known to look. I can say that one episode of Ranma where the prize of a contest is winning a trip to visit any hot springs, whenever a male character is fantasizing about various female characters; there is always a shot very reminiscent of Kyoko and Godai's rendezvous at a hot springs. But I'll mention some appearances I've documented so far. Episode 46: Lunch is a Battlefield! Ikuko and Grandfather Otonashi are having lunch as various Tomobiki miscreants run past. Episode 195: All-Star Banquet! We are Immortal!! Kyoko can be seen as Lum shocks Ataru. UY Movie 3: Remember My Love Godai and Kyoko are walking to Marchenland with Akemi and Mrs. Ichinose. I can't remember if Yotsuya is there.... UY Movie 4: Lum the Forever Kyoko and Godai are in the audience at Tomobiki High when Mendo tries to tell everyone about the crystalline dreams that have been appearing across the city. Ranma 1/2 Nettohen: Episode 2 or 3 During a pan of the audience during the Charlotte Cup Sakamoto and Godai can be seen. As for other characters appearing in Maison Ikkoku.. Maison Ikkoku: Episode 1 Look closely at the schoolchildren....it's chibi Ataru, Shinobu and Megane! They almost knock down a blink-and-you'll-miss-him Onsen Mark. Maison Ikkoku: Episode 6 Little Ataru, Megane and Shinobu again. Keep adding some! It'll make my work that much easier when I finally put the article together. Ha! Life at Maison Ikkoku Webmaster

During the scene that you cite with the 'council' talking to the audience at Tomobiki high, I could swear it panned to her in the audience, drawn as she drew herself in the eighties. I'll have to look for all those other cameos!

It would be difficult to try to catalog all the cameos in Rumiko Takahashi Anthology by characters who are in other short stories, but I think that there's at least one in every episode. While we're on the subject, in UY Movie 2 there's a scene that flashes back (sort of) to the game of tag at the beginning of the series. I could swear Rumiko Takahashi is among the crowd of people in that scene.

Ronin Posts: 191 (08/03/06 01:02 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Since the first time I read it, I thought maybe Takahashi put herself into the Maison Ikkoku chapter Hair of the Dog, in book 12. There's a lady disgusted by Soichiro's chasing after squid on a stick who from my memory looked like the pictures Takahashi drew of herself for that comic (the diary of... I forget whom exactly, and I'm not sure if it's still on line here), but I looked just now at the pictures on her profile on the main site, and they don't exctly look like the picture in Hair of the Dog. Anybody ever notice that? I would suspect not, but it's hard to let go of something like that when you've convinced yourself. I think the kid who Yagami brings, supposedly to get a tutor, but really to act as her parent in approving Yusaku as a tutor, kind of looks like the picture Takahashi drew of herself.

I thought for sure when I just watched this episode that in the second episode of the second season (the first part of the Charlotte Cup, but the second part of the three part mini-series concerning the abduction of P-chan), Ataru Morobishi can be seen behind the announcer to his left. Also, although I saw what did look like Sakamoto and Godai in the Azuza cheering section in that same episode with Azusa shirts and bandannas on, I thought that in the third episode of that mini-series (the second featuring the Charlotte Cup) there was a pan shot of the crowd where Kyoko can be seen with what looks like Sakamoto and Godai in front of her forming a triangle. Also, I thought I had spotted Yagami earlier. That one, I might attribute to a coincidence. It did not look like her gang with her. But in the Kyoko, Sakamoto, Godai shot, that looked too much like them to be coincidence. BTW, by the third episode, Ataru is gone from the announcer's side. Part 1 Mendou has a dream where he marries Lum-chan, and one of the wedding guests is almost certainly Godai (in a high school uniform!). There is a very clear shot, and the camera seems to linger momentarily, as if to give the viewer time to figure it out.

In the 2nd half, the girls catch Ataru looking at a porn magazine "Momoiro". The covergirl is Akemi. And just in case we aren't completely certain, it says "Akemi" right over her picture in roman lettering. Cultural aside, "momoiro" means "peach color" and at one time perhaps was the Japanese word for "pink". But the word has become completely associated with pornography much like "blue" is associated with it here, only more so. I leave it to everyone's imagination why peach color might become associated with sex in Japan. In polite company the Japanese now use the English word for pink, "pinku".

Godai was reading a Maison Ikkoku manga in another episode. Don't know if those count as cameos but they did make some references.

Pictures: jopojelly.googlepages.com/4a.JPG , jopojelly.googlepages.com/4b.JPG , jopojelly.googlepages.com/4c.JPG , jopojelly.googlepages.com/4d.JPG I'm positive about Mrs. Ichinose, and Kyoko has her pink apron on, so it must be her, but Godai, Yostuya, and Sakamoto look very similar, but I'm not 100% sure it's them. Any input? do you think that Godai, Yostuya, and Sakamoto are in these shots?

I'm not 100% certain about the second one, but isn't she the captain of the volleyball team in urusei yatsura? The one who thinks Mendo looks like her ex-boyfriend and makes a horrible face whenever she plays volleyball? Anyways, to add to the list of cameos, Ataru and Lum are in the first episode of maison ikkoku. When Godai's cleaning up his room and shoves a blanket into his closet, a pile of magazines fall out and you can see them as the pages turn. Also, in the UY episode where Ataru takes a ghost girl out on a date at an amusement park (can't remember which episode exactly), I remember seeing various members of MI on the pirate ship ride. I know there's others I've seen, but nothing else comes to mind right now.
